A resolution to be adopted on October 30th at the Sendai LCWS to convey the importance of building the ILC in Japan

On October 17th, the Tohoku ILC Planning Office released an outline for the Linear Collider Workshop (LCWS) that will be held in Sendai City on October 28th – November 1st. On October 30th, they will adopt a resolution to convey the importance of building the ILC in Japan, aimed at researchers from around the world.Explaining this in Sendai City was Prof. Atsuto Suzuki, Director of the Tohoku ILC Planning Office and President of Iwate Prefectural University, and Prof. Hitoshi Yamamoto, leader of the local organization committee and professor at the Graduate School of Science at Tohoku University.

KEK releases its proposals for ILC implementation, including international cost-sharing
Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK, in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture) released a proposal on ILC implementation that was developed by their international working group. They proposed that Japan, as host country, would be responsible for the costs associated with civil engineering, around 22% of the total cost of construction of the accelerator facility (total cost: up to 583 billion yen, excluding labor costs). They added that all member countries using the accelerator should share costs. They hope for the central Japanese government to use this as reference in their international negotiations.

Famous figures from various fields gather together in Tokyo for an ILC Supporters Kick-Off Event

The ILC Supporters, a grassroots group supporting the project led by famous figures of various fields, held a Kick-Off Event in Tokyo on October 15th to gin up enthusiasm for the realization of the ILC.
Mamoru Oshii, director of many well-known anime films and founder of the ILC Supporters, was joined by Prof. Satoru Yamashita and others. Prof. Yamashita asked for people’s support, saying, “Currently, we’re at the stage where Japan is figuring out how they’ll approach inter-governmental negotiations. The ILC will need a vast amount of resources and capital for its construction, so what we need most is support and understanding from society.”
