Coming Soon: Neurodiversity Library

In an effort to foster further compassion and understanding within our community, we are creating a Neurodiversity Library in the coffee shop. Our Neurodiversity Library will begin with a curated children’s collection of stories about characters across the spectrum of diversity. Guests may read, learn and start conversations around these important topics. We will expand our collection to middle grade and young adult books this spring, and add an adult collection over the summer.

Heartfelt Market
Giving back to the Community

The 2nd Annual Heartfelt Market on February 12th was a wonderful success raising spirits and dollars for local first responders.

The event was co-organized by The Nest and Anchor & Compass shops in downtown Deep River. Folks came to visit the shops and collected paper hearts from each business to create a wreath of hearts. All participating businesses donated a portion of their sales to support our first responders who keep us all safe!

Through this community effort, $2,200 was raised to support Deep River’s volunteer first responders! Murray Newton, our event Heart Mascot, was even on hand to help spread the love! Our thanks to all who made the day wonderful with your warm hearts and generous spirit!

International Women’s Month

Numbers vary, but overall it is widely accepted that autism is more commonly diagnosed in men than in women. Current estimates suggest that around three men receive an autism diagnosis for every one woman. However, there may be several reasons for this. Taken altogether, research suggests that it is unlikely that ASD is equally common amongst men and women, yet, growing evidence suggests that current diagnostic procedures may fail to capture how ASD manifests in women and thus exaggerates the already existing difference in prevalence rates. Women have also been found to be diagnosed with ASD at significantly later ages and to experience greater delays in the time from an initial evaluation to receiving a clinical ASD diagnosis and so this may also impact numbers and statistics.
