LifeSpan Update

August 2019

Hello <<First Name>>

Stayin' Cool at LifeSpan

August might be a “downtime” month for some, but not for those of us at LifeSpan! There is much going on in preparation for new and exciting programs, as well as some of our annual favorites. Please read through this eblast for the latest information on our staff pursuits, new hires, promotions and other endeavors. And please don’t forget to mark your calendars for our upcoming fund raisers:  September 12 is Give For Good – our one day of online giving; and Tuesday, October 29 is, of course, our awesome Voice and Vino at the Casino. Don’t miss out!
We are developing our new Dementia Friends program – some of our management team and board of directors have already become “Dementia Friends.”  This important new initiative will provide our community with a grass roots program of dementia education and awareness.
Our intrepid seniors have kicked off their new “Gang” year as “Roarin’ Seniors.”  We already knew they were rarin’ to go!  They love their theme going into the “New Roaring 20s.”  Check out all the details in this eblast.
Finally, you can shine like a Hollywood Movie Star at the YMCA’s “Senior Prom” for Active Older Adults on September 14 at the Floyd County YMCA.  LifeSpan is happy to be a sponsor of this new event. Tell your friends – details in this eblast.
Like I said, there is no lazing around the end of summer for LifeSpanners, but I do hope everyone can enjoy the rest of these very warm August days,

It's almost that time of year again:
Give for Good Louisville, the biggest day of online local giving!

Place the date and reminders on your phone! Share our Facebook posts and tell all your friends! On Thursday, September 12 from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., make an online donation to support LifeSpan Resources at

Our goal is to reach 90 unique donors to be eligible for matching funds from
generous Give for Good partners.

Your support goes directly toward providing crucial services such as case management, transportation, and home delivered meals (Meals to Go!) to help people in our community remain living independently.

Give for Good is a great way to make your donation go further! The shared prize pools are worth a grand total of $282,000  - to be split among agencies reaching the unique donor milestones. So please help us reach 90 unique donors, and we will receive shares of these matching funds!  (A unique donor means one person with one unique credit or debit card).

But wait, there's more!  As a Southern Indiana nonprofit, LifeSpan is eligible to receive additional shares from more match pools due to the generosity of Samtec Cares, the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, Bales Foundation, and Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County.

So PLEASE, on  Thursday, September 12, go to and donate to LifeSpan. In the meantime, please share the link with friends and family OR forward this eblast OR  share on social media (buttons at the top).

Thank you for helping make this the most successful Give for Good ever!

Who can you help by donating blood?

Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

LifeSpan Resources has been hosting bi-monthly blood drives for the past 12 years.  We started at our Bank Street location, and carried the efforts forward to the YMCA location when we moved to 33 State Street in 2008.
Over the past 12 years, LifeSpan Resources has hosted 69 blood drives, with 903 donors, and collected 1210 units of whole blood. That’s over 151 GALLONS of blood!!

The next blood drive will be held at the Floyd County YMCA, on 9/24/2019 from 9 AM to 1 PM.  The blood mobile usually parks in front of the YMCA in the turnaround near the bottom of the hill.  Although appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are always welcomed.
