"Called to Grow, Share, Serve"

Our Mission Statement
“A family of faith Called to Grow in the love of Christ,
Share that Good News, and Serve the world.”

Dear Church Family,
It’s hard to believe that we are one week away from celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday yet again and quickly moving ahead into the Season of Advent.  It also seems that winter is coming a little early with our first official snowfall and the return to colder weather.  I hope and pray that you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday next week.  There’s a lot going on in the life of the church and so I wanted to give you a snapshot of things to be aware of as noted below:
Operation Christmas Child – We encourage you to bring your shoeboxes to worship this Sunday as we dedicate them to God during the service.  You will be invited to bring them forward during our prayers for the people and to lay hands on them as we ask God’s blessing upon them and the volunteers who deliver them.  Be sure to include $10 via check made out to Samaritan’s Purse inside the boxes to cover the shipping costs.
Church Thanksgiving Meal – This Sunday we will gather at 5:30pm to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together in the multi-purpose room.  We are hosting some of our friends from the Hospitality House also.  We encourage you to come and bring a dish to share as we give thanks to God for one another and for all our blessings.
Angel Tree Mission – We still have a few children left to adopt from our angel tree in the Gathering Space.  If you would like to adopt a child and provide gifts for Christmas, we encourage you to sign out someone at our table.  Gifts are due by December 1.
Greening the Church – If you would like to help decorate and “green” the church, please come to the sanctuary Monday, November 21 at 5:30pm.  We have plenty to do and would love to have as many who are able to participate!  This helps us prepare for Advent to begin on Sunday, November 27.
Moravian Lovefeast – Our Moravian Lovefeast returns this year on Sunday, December 4.  Music will begin at 6:00pm and the service will start at 6:30pm.  We invite you to join us for this special Christmas service that involves Moravian buns and coffee.  The service will also be livestreamed.
Additional Information:
The church recently received a large financial gift to be used for capital needs around the church under the discretion of the session.  This anonymous gift was graciously given to help provide funding to replace two of our failing projectors in the sanctuary.  They will be installed next week.  In addition, the session voted to purchase 12 new tables for use in the multi-purpose room, replacing the worn-out tables we’ve used for years.  This would not have been possible without this gracious gift.  Glory to God!
As we’ve moved to one worship service, you’ll notice that the baby grand piano has a new home.  It has been moved to where the organ used to be.  This will enhance our worship space and allow Tyler to see the choir, the congregation, and Brandon directing.  In addition, we’ve moved the upright piano from the multi-purpose room into the sanctuary for Cindy to play with the band.  We’re working on getting it ready to be used in Advent.
At our session meeting Sunday, the session voted to officially charter Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 100.  Two of our very own, Thomas Lehman and Thomas Moss, participate in this scout troop who were nomads looking for a home.  The scouts will be using our facility on Tuesday evenings and look forward to participating in mission opportunities through the church.
And finally, we have upgraded our phone system at the church.  When you call the church you will be greeted by an automated system that allows you to press an extension number to contact the staff member you wish to speak with.  This will provide more efficiency for Jennifer, and it will also allow you to speak with the person you’re trying to reach.  In addition, we are providing a prompt for a “pastoral emergency,” so that you can leave a message for Pastor Jeff or Steve Marks to respond when the office isn’t open.  This new system will save the church money year to year and will also have the capability of allowing us the ability to answer the phone from home when the office is closed due to inclimate weather.
(See more detailed information about this below).

As you can see, there’s a lot going on and a lot to share.  Stayed tuned for more information regarding Advent services through Christmas Day.  I look forward to seeing you Sunday in worship and at our Thanksgiving meal.  Blessings!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff

“Hello and thank you for calling
First Presbyterian Church of Boone.”

That’s what you’ll hear when you call the church, courtesy of our new telephone system. Why a new phone system you may ask? We needed to upgrade our original equipment to keep pace with technology advancements because our telecommunications requirements have become integrated with our fire and security alarms and the Internet. Our new telephone system also allows us to be more efficient in directing calls to staff when we are not available to immediately answer the phone and after normal business hours.
When you call the church, an “automated attendant” will answer the phone and offer several choices for connecting to staff, as well as an announcement regarding our Sunday School and Worship Service times for visitors and guests calling to inquire. Callers will be directed to staff phones and their respective voice mail. When you leave a message, that message is recorded and sent via email so that they can listen to your message when not sitting at their desk. In addition, a special voicemail box has been established for pastoral emergencies for a more timely response to your needs.
When you call the church, our new automated attendant will invite you to listen to a menu of options. You need only press the corresponding number to be connected to the person with whom you wish to speak. You will also have the ability to listen to all the options again should you desire to do so. If you know the option (person) you want, you won’t need to listen to the entire recording… just select the desired option. If you are not sure to whom you need to speak, you will have the ability to leave a general message, and someone will return your call to best route you to the right person.
As this is a new system, we anticipate that some minor tweaking may be necessary over the course of the next few weeks. We welcome your questions, comments and feedback as we work to create a welcoming and more efficient means to answer calls from our church members and the community at large.
