Words of the Wise Stewardship Series
Over the next three weeks we will continue our focus on the book of Proverbs as we tackle the subject of stewardship from the angle of generosity.  I invite you to prepare your hearts for worship and to welcome the Spirit’s presence to move us beyond ourselves as we seek to be faithful to God in giving of our time, talents, and treasure.  In the next few days you will receive more information regarding Stewardship Season that will include information related to our approved Ask Budget by the Session.
All of this leads us to Sunday, October 20, which is our Stewardship Dedication Sunday.  We will have a combined worship service at 10:30am where we will offer our pledges for 2020 to God, welcome new members into our flock, and celebrate God’s goodness with a potluck after worship.  This Sunday we kick off our series looking at Proverbs 3:9-10 and in tandem, reading the story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4:1-7.  This Sunday is also Worldwide Communion Sunday, so come prepared to be nourished by the Word of God and to receive God’s grace and nourishment at the Table.  I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff

Beyond 2020 Vision Presentation
Sunday afternoon our Coordinating Team presented the results from our Beyond 2020 Vision process to the congregation.  I want to thank all of our Coordinating Team members for their commitment and diligent work to bring everything that was presented to fruition.  Much of their work was behind the scenes, but they spent a lot of time together prayerfully discerning the way forward.  Many thanks to Garner Dewey, Kelvin Gryder, Heather Langdon, Todd Liljestrand, Katherine Logan, John Newell, and Gay Lynn Williams!  We plan to upload the written presentation and materials on our website for anyone who missed Sunday’s meeting.  Be on the lookout for this in the coming week.

While you should always pay attention to emails from your pastor, I want you to be diligent in reading any email that comes from me.  Apparently there is a nationwide scam going around in which people are masking emails that look like they are from the pastor of the church.  I have been contacted by several church members that received emails that appear to be from me, but are not.  They generally ask for monetary favors to purchase iTunes gift cards for congregants.   I mentioned this from the pulpit a week ago, but another attempt has happened again this week.  My email is not hacked; it is a scammer’s attempt to find it on our website and try to craft an email to members whose emails are online.  This happened to another colleague of mine in our presbytery this week too. I’m including a sample email below for you to show you what I mean:

Rev. Jeff Smith
God bless,
My schedule for the day is quite tight, I have a meeting that requires my attention and I don’t’ know how long it will last.  Can you get it from any store around you possibly now and I will pay you back later in cash or check?  Let me know if you can get the card for these patients and if it won’t be too much trouble.
Sorry to drop this on you on short notice, I just need to get iTunes gift card today for some women battling cancer in a cancer group whose founder I have a close relationship with.  The cards are for the women to download their favorite songs and videos to boost confidence while they await the next phase of treatment.
This is a scam email.
