Extraordinary Lives in Christ”

Beyond 2020 Vision Report Coming Soon!
Congregational Meeting – Sunday, September 29 at 1:00pm
Sunday School at 10:00am
One Worship Service at 11:00am

Over the last year we have been working together as a church family to prayerfully discern where God is leading us into the future.  Last September we launched 14 small groups that met for over eight weeks, guided by scripture and the current ministries of the church, to discern and discuss our dreams and visions at FPC.  Over 115 people were a part of this process!  Information from the groups was collected and reviewed by the Coordinating Team, who has graciously worked since last November to synthesize everything that was shared.  In doing so, small groups were brought back together in January and February to prioritize the items that had risen to the top from each area of ministry.  Our Coordinating Team also received those responses, gaining much clarity from them and then developed a long-range plan to achieve these dreams and visions.  This also included revisiting our current mission statement and revising it to lead us into our vision together.
The Coordinating Team met with the Session last month and presented the plan, which was unanimously approved.  On Sunday, September 29 we will have a congregational meeting to share this with the whole church.  In order to unite the congregation in this endeavor, we are having one worship service at 11:00am that day, with Sunday school at its regular time.  Following worship we will have a potluck luncheon in the multi-purpose room and then return at 1:00pm in the sanctuary to hear the report from the Coordinating Team.  They have been intentional in providing an engaging presentation that will last no more than one hour.  Childcare will be provided for our younger children during the congregational meeting so that parents can be present.  I encourage you to come and hear this report as we begin to move from the process to implementing it in the coming years.  Even if you were unable to participate in a small group, or if you are new to the church, you are invited to be a part of this special gathering.  I’m excited about where God is leading us, and I look forward to your excitement in partnering to make these dreams a reality.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff

Outreach Sunday!
Many thanks to all of you who helped make our Outreach Sunday a big success!  We had around 170 folks gather on the lawn of the church for a picnic, fellowship, and fun.  This was the first time we’ve gathered on our own property in my last five years as service as your pastor.  It was great to see children, youth, and adults playing, talking and eating with one another.  It was a blessing to see new faces that were welcomed warmly because you were intentional in inviting them to come.  I want to encourage you to make Outreach Sunday every Sunday by inviting people to join us for worship and fellowship here at FPC.  We have a wonderful church family and there are many in our community who desire and need a family of faith.  Thank you for your willingness to try something new!  I’m grateful for all of you!

Adult Education Opportunities Abound!
Hello Friends! As we approach this Autumn season, I am pleased to share with you a number of adult education opportunities. Our Reach Wednesday programming begins tomorrow evening. If you haven’t yet signed up for a class, there is still time. Please visit our website for class and registration details at
Several of our Sunday School classes are beginning new studies. Now is a good time to visit a class! If you’ve never been to a Sunday School class before, let me assure you that it is not an overwhelming experience. There are no lengthy homework assignments and no examinations. What you will find are healthy opportunities for Christian education and fellowship.
We have shifted some classrooms around to better accommodate our logistical needs and provide some continuity during our Reach Wednesday programming. Sunday School Teachers will be on the lookout to help navigate folks to the appropriate classrooms. Here are some samplings of the classes available:
The Nike Class, which is now meeting in Rooms 103-104, will be exploring the books of the New Testament and several key biblical themes that emerge throughout the narrative of the Bible. Videos and resources developed by the Bible Project will be used as an initial guide to learning the content, narrative and importance of each book and theme.
The FOCUS Class, which now is meeting in Room 105, is taking a deeper look at Psalm 23 using Matt Chandler’s new study on RightNow Media… Matt introduces us to the great shepherd, the Lord, who promises to provide for every need of his flock. By studying Psalm 23, we’ll encounter a life-transforming question: Do you trust the Lord to care for your needs?
The Bible Discovery Class
, which now is meeting in Room 110, is studying I & II Samuel and I & II Kings … from the takeover and settlement of the Promised Land - to the monarchy under Saul, David, and Solomon - to the divided kingdom and fall of the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel.
The Koinonia Class, which meets in Room 111, is for women. They are using Max Lucado’s study “Anxious for Nothing” to explore God’s treatment plan for anxiety found in Philippians 4:4–8. As you follow this prescription – you will experience God’s peace that “transcends all understanding” and will help you reframe the way you look at your fears.
The Man 2 Man class, which meets in Room 112, will start a new study on the book of Ephesians. This would be a great time for any men of the church to join for a time to grow in our faith and discuss real life questions together. “Pastor and author J.D. Greear walks through the powerful words of Paul. In 9 sessions, J.D. digs into the text of Ephesians verse-by-verse and challenges believers to live out the gospel. Encounter Ephesians and get swept up into the story of Jesus.”
The Genesis Class, which meets in Room 126, is studying Ephesians… throughout its worship, prayers and instructions for living, Paul can't contain his joy and amazement at the larger story of God's plan to save us in Jesus the Messiah. This study by N.T. Wright will help us see the significance of our role in God's grand narrative.
The Young Professions / College Class, which meets in Room 127, studies selected Scripture to learn more about God’s character and will for our lives. Join us for lively discussion through the study of Scripture, prayer and intentional community.
The Social Concerns Class, which meets in Room 206, studies lessons from The Wired Word. Timely issues bring lessons and discussions to life, makes them more relevant to modern Christian living, and weaves current events and appropriate Scripture into weekly lessons and discussions.

  •  KNARTHEX KNITTERS:  The Knarthex Knitters get together for fellowship in knitting and crocheting, sharing knitting tips, patterns, yarn, and joys and concerns of members of the church family. We have a wonderful, relaxing time. Leader: Julia Pedigo
  • MEN’S STUDY Using the Curriculum from John Eldredge's Wild at Heart, Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul, this class will delve into the issues of being a man of faith in a relationship with a woman. Are you bored? Are you aware of the deepest desires of your heart? Afraid of risk? What is "authentic masculinity" as opposed to a "macho man" mentality? Where does a man find validation, at work, or with your woman, or some other source? Eldredge urges men to take time out and come to grips with the desires of their hearts. This is a dynamic and powerful look into men's souls... a great place to start growing in your relationship. Leaders: Jonathan Lehman and Gary Burke
  •  PROVERBS is one of the three books of wisdom literature in the Old Testament. We will study its historical background, its place in the Hebrew canon, and its relevance to the cultures and personalities which produced it. We will also focus on its ageless relevance as we apply its truths to our own time. Leader: Herb Hash
  • SMALL GROUP EXPERIENCE As a result of Beyond 2020, a Small Group Ministry is coming to FPC! Think about how you came to know Christ, or how you have grown in your faith. More than likely, God has used one or more people to make a tremendous difference in your life. Join us to learn how small groups can make a difference in your life and what to expect as a member or leader of a small group.  Leaders: Sam McMillan & Sue Newell
  • HAND BELL PRACTICE    Leader: Lisa Combs
  • ACTING OUT is a drama workshop for middle and high schoolers.  We will be producing BELIEVE, by Fay Couch Reeves as a Christmas play.  There are acting roles involved in this project as well as stage managing, props and costumes, set building, and music.  Everyone is invited to be a part of the project on stage or off!

  • Birth – 3 yr olds: will have Bible stories, music and play time.
  • Pre-K – 5th Grades: will actively learn about mission work in Mexico through Bible study, music, and hands on activities. We will learn about Mexican culture and the mission work our church supports in Mexico. We will work on a mission project to be sent with our Medical team going to Ocosingo this fall. Our aim is to open kids' eyes to see the needs of people around the world and to inspire kids to minister to others through mission work here and abroad.

Join us for a Women’s Bible Study
beginning Tuesday, September 10th 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm (childcare provided).

She will walk a path with you, a path away from frantic pushing and proving, and toward your essential self, the one you were created to be before you began proving and earning of your worth.
