"Called to Grow, Share, Serve"

Our Mission Statement
“A family of faith Called to Grow in the love of Christ,
Share that Good News, and Serve the world.”

“I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.  He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”         Psalm 91:2-4
Dear Church Family,
We have been physically apart for over two months, which breaks my heart but not my spirit.  While I miss each and every one of you, I’m also grateful that we have been able to faithfully navigate these uncharted waters together.  We’ve never done online worship before, but we found a way to make it happen in a relatively short amount of time.  I personally want to thank our worship committee, and particularly elder, Rob Robertson, for his efforts to edit and produce our YouTube services each week.  I’m also grateful to all our staff members for their continued efforts to provide for worship and for their areas of ministry.  During this time we have learned how to “zoom” together so that we can have our Sunday school classes, our committee meetings, small group gatherings, youth group, knitting ministry, and even our diaconate and session meetings.  The church continues to be the church; although we’re not in our building.
In response to the ever changing landscape of restrictions in our state and the most recent ruling allowing for churches to reconvene, the session of our church met last Sunday and had a long conversation regarding where we go from here.  I assure you that each elder has prayerfully thought through what’s best for the church given what we know thus far.  Given the contagious nature of COVID-19, especially in confined spaces – like our sanctuary, and the many theological, pastoral, and logistical concerns of trying to reopen, the session has decided to continue our online worship for the foreseeable future.  Jesus calls us to “love our neighbors as ourselves,” and our collective concern is for the safety of everyone.  We recognize that other churches and communities of faith have already reopened their doors, while others, like us, remain cautious.  Our decision mimics Salem Presbytery’s special task force’s recommendation on this issue.  Click here to see the statement in its entirety:  Here is a portion of their statement:
The consensus of Salem Presbytery's task force is that churches in our presbytery ought to continue to abide by guidelines offered by the governor, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control. According to those guidelines, gatherings of more than ten persons indoors are prohibited, and gatherings of more than twenty-five outdoors are prohibited. In addition those who are in at-risk categories because of their state of health or age continue to be encouraged to stay at home as much as possible except for absolutely necessary ventures outside to obtain food or health care or to take exercise.  Many members of our congregations, including some who are most faithful in worship attendance, are in these at-risk categories. The decision for each congregation belongs to its leaders, but we encourage you to continue to refrain from in person worship until further notice.

Until we can meet safely in the sanctuary, we will continue to broadcast our services online.  In addition, the session approved exploring the option of “drive –in church,” which could provide a safe alternative gathering in our parking lot.  We are assembling a task force to explore the logistics of this option.  They will present their findings to session at the June stated meeting.  Should the session approve this measure, we will communicate more about when and how it will be done at a later date.
Friends, I long for the day we can gather safely together, singing without worry and greeting one another without fear of unintentionally causing harm.  We are called to be in community with one another, but for now we must use the technology we have at our disposal to foster our community together.  Praise God that we have such things that allow for this!  As we continue to work through this challenging time, please know that your elders are committed to making the wisest decisions they can to provide for our continued worship, care, fellowship, study, and mission together.  I want to thank all of you for your continued support, encouragement, and commitment to be the church of Jesus Christ – the people; not the steeple!
In addition, this Sunday we will begin launching our YouTube worship service at 8:45am, for those who prefer the “earlier” worship time.  It will remain available at 11:00am for those who choose to worship at that time as well.  May God continue to make his presence known to you, give you his peace, and hide you under the shelter of his wings.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff

Celebrating Our High School Graduates

With the Watauga County school year coming to an end, our church family  would like to congratulate both Jadyn Kadyk and Eli Winek on their milestone of graduating from Watauga High School. We would also like to recognize their families for the hard work they put in to help their graduates get to this point. Jaydn Kadyk will be attending Wingate University this fall and hopes to begin a degree in biology. Eli Winek is looking to attend Guilford College this fall and is considering his options for majors. In our service this week, we will come together as a church to pray for both Jadyn and Eli, praising God for their incredible accomplishment while also praying that God would continue to guide and to grow them as they take this next step into college. In the upcoming weeks, please lift up both Jadyn and Eli, along with their families, as they make this important transition to college life. Pray that they would feel and know God's presence during this transition, finding hope and joy in the truth that God has the best planned for Jadyn and Eli and that He will lovingly bring those plans to fruition. Our heart and prayers go out to both graduates and as well as their families. Congratulations on graduating high school, Jadyn and Eli! Well done, and may you both continue in God's will, knowing His goodness and grace all the more!
Let Us Pray Together… Thursdays @ 10:00am
I invite you to join me for prayer on a weekly basis.  I will be hosting a Zoom prayer time on Thursdays at 10:00am.  This will be a time to share joys and concerns and to spend some time praying with one another, even if it’s just wordless groans!  If you are interested in participating please email Steve Marks – and let him know.  We will email you the zoom link information for you to join.
This is open to anyone and there’s no pressure to pray out loud if you don’t want to.   For those whose schedules limit participation at this time, I encourage you to stop what you’re doing at 10:00am and to offer a prayer with us from where you are.  Let us continue to seek God daily, joining together to pray for one another and for our world.  I look forward to praying with you!

Hello church families! As we move into summer, while many things are changing on an almost day to day basis, one thing remains consistent this summer as children begin summer vacation, our Food for Families Mission will continue to provide food boxes for families in need in our county.
This summer the sign up will be altered to comply with safety for all involved in the packing and delivery process.
We are following the recommended safety guidelines which include:
                   1. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer
                   2. Limited numbers of people will be allowed to pack
                   3. Social distancing will be required for non-family members
For this reason, we will be packing on several consecutive days instead of doing all of the work on one day. This is what the first packing / delivery will look like:
Sunday, June 21 – 4-5:30pm    Make/Label Boxes and Food Table Set up
          Monday, June 22 – 6-7:30pm   Food Packing
          Tuesday, June 23 – 9:30-12pm  Food Delivery
This year we are going to only have sign-ups for the first packing date to see how our plans go for coordination etc., and will make changes if necessary. The next packing delivery will be on July 5-7, July 19-21 and August 2-4.
To sign up for Food for Families please call or email me, Anna Lehman, Food 4 Families volunteer coordinator at or 828-964-9055.
Please contact me by June 10th to volunteer.
Especially during this difficult time, we acknowledge that all may not feel comfortable being in a social setting, but you can still be involved by praying for this ministry as we provide food for needy children and their families in Western Watauga.
We thank you for your blessings and prayers to help us meet the needs of those less fortunate. Go to to find out more about Food 4 Families.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and again “Thank You”!!
