A Special Night Supporting
Griffith Observatory
On Monday, November 25, 2019 at 6:00 PM, Griffith Observatory is hosting a unique fundraising event saluting legendary space artist Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986). The night includes a screening of the 60-minute version documentary Chesley Bonestell: A Brush With The Future and the opportunity to see Griffith Observatory's collection of Bonestell art. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of The Observatory (FOTO).
Also included will be a screening of "Days of Future Passed," a Bonus Feature video which will accompany the full documentary when it is released at a later date. This video is a brief look at what happened when Bonestell's visionary art collided with the future.
The evening will be moderated by Griffith Observatory’s Art Director Don Dixon. On hand for a Q&A after the screenings will be Producer/Writer/Director Douglass M. Stewart, Jr. and Co-Producer Melvin Schuetz, author of "A Chesley Bonestell Space Art Chronology."
Event Schedule:
- Reception on the Sunset Terrace
- Viewing of Griffith Observatory's original Bonestell paintings
- Screening of Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future
- Panel Discussion following the Screening
Griffith Observatory's collection of original Bonestell paintings includes some of the largest panoramas ever done by him. It's been 60 years since Bonestell originally painted them.
