Crawford Weekly Messenger: What's In This Issue

I Do Solemnly Swear

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns people against taking oaths, even going so far as to say they come from a place of evil (Matt. 5:33-37). What’s up with that? The answer comes as we continue our look at the Fruit of the Spirit and focus in on the fruit of “faithfulness.” Along the way we’ll also dissect one of the ugliest stories in the entire Bible, found in Judges 11. Jephthah kept his vow in that story; but was he faithful? Join us on Sunday to talk about it.

New Adult Study Starts This Week

Our new adult study begins this week. Kim Burke will lead us in a discussion of the daily devotionals from Lent in Plain Sight: A Devotion Through Ten Objects, by Jill Duffield. The author hopes that this book “opens our eyes and ears to the certain providence and power of God, allowing us to lower our anxiety about the future, lessen our burdens about the past, and free us to follow Jesus in faith right here and now.” Each daily devotion includes a Bible verse, 5-6 paragraph story, 3 questions for reflection, and a prayer. It's not too late to join, and all are welcome!
Copies of the book are available inside the church for those who have keys. Others may contact the church office at 781-729-5056 to arrange for pick-up or drop-off. Or consider supporting a local business, and order your copy through Bookends in Winchester. Visit our website for more information about the study, including an outline and the Zoom link you'll need to join the discussion on Sunday mornings.

Become a Conversation Starter

We’re looking for contributions to the “Conversations” on our web site and for the Messenger. We want your insights, memories, and reflections on how you’ve seen God at work in your life, how you’ve held onto your faith when it seemed God was absent, and more. Maybe you’d like to reflect on a favorite hymn, tell us how Anne’s last sermon hit home for you, or something else entirely. Pieces should be around 500 words.
