A PRAYER FOR OUR COUNTRY IN THIS ELECTION SEASON

Almighty God, you have given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly pray that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes who have come here from many cultures, languages and nations. Give a spirit of wisdom to those to whom in your Name we entrust the governance of our land, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, by obedience to you, we may show forth your praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, do not let our trust in you fail. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

"HOLDING ONTO HOPE: A NATIONAL SERVICE FOR HEALING AND WHOLENESS"  Sunday, November 1, 1:00 p.m. PST Livestream from Washington National Cathedral - Presiding Bishop Michael Curry leads a service of prayer "as a beacon of hope for the nation." In the midst of pandemic, racial reckoning and an historic election, the live-streamed service will gather Americans for prayer, song, lament, hope and a call to love God and neighbor.

INTERFAITH SERVICE LIVESTREAM: "UNITED FOR GOOD, Gathering in Silence to Quell the Darkness" - Sunday, November 1, 6:30 p.m. As we confront challenges to our health, our civil society and our body politic, we are at a crisis of conscience. And though the voices of extremism and vitriol often resound loudly, it is the quiet resolve, the reasoned discussion, and the judicious wisdom of the good, the undaunted, and the hopeful that will see us through this crisis. Local religious leaders will gather in Seattle's St. James Cathedral for a brief interfaith service of quiet reflection before election day, as we affirm the principles that transcend our differences and the common cause that will bind the wounds of this Great Nation. All are invited to join the livestream at https://vimeo.com/event/344850. (Co-sponsored by Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, St. James Cathedral, Temple De Hirsch Sinai, First African Methodist Episcopal, Church Council of Greater Seattle.)

Each service begins and ends with a recorded musical offering.  The short service is a peaceful, centering and friendly way to start the day.

LECTIO DIVINA (meditative reflection on a passage of scripture) (by Zoom)
Tuesdays 7:30 a.m. (25-30 minutes)

KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH OUR BELOVED AND NOT-SO-BELOVED DEAD
All Souls' Day, Monday, November 2, 7:00 PM
November 2 is All Souls, the day on which Anglicans and Catholics keep vigil with our beloved dead. For many Americans, the dead are simply dead – perhaps remembered with affection or regret – but gone and never to be seen again. Is that what Christian faith teaches us about our beloved dead? How we are bound to the dead . . . who are alive to God?

THE MONTHLY READING GROUP - Sunday, November 29, 6:30 p.m. (by Zoom) We are trying something new: a poetry exchange. If you want to participate, you can send one or two poems to Sandy Johanson at srjohanson@harbornet.com by November 20. She'll collect and send all the poems to contributors. Whether you send poems or not, all are welcome to zoom in to the reading and discussion. If you have questions and for the Zoom link, contact Don Johnson: weddjohnson@msn.com.

LIFE FOOD PACKS - HOME MADE! - Do you miss having Life Food Packs to share with hungry people you encounter? The Community Service Leadership Team has a way for you to make food packs in your home to distribute to people in need. And there is much need in this time of growing food insecurity. If you're interested, please contact Jim Limerick (445jrl@gmail.com), Bill Tudor (wetudor@comcast.net), or Len Johnson (lljbrownspt@gmail.com) of the Community Service Leadership Team (CSLT). They'll e-mail you a list of Life Food Pack items to purchase on your next grocery run and a one-page list of Tacoma/Pierce County Resources for people experiencing homelessness to print and include in the packs.

PARISH COMMUNITY NOTES

A SECOND DEACON AT CHRIST CHURCH - From Mother Janet
I'm happy to announce the Bishop's appointment of Deacon Donna Arellano to join Archdeacon Gen Grewell in serving as deacons at Christ Church. I know some of you have already met Donna on one parish Zoom or another. There will be more opportunities to get to know Donna and to explore what the gift of having two deacons may bring to our life and ministry at Christ Church. I invite all of you to welcome Donna to our staff. (You can email her at deacon.donna17@gmail.com)

Hello all! I’m Deacon Donna. Starting November 1, I'll be serving along with Gen as your deacon at Christ Church. My husband Hector and I moved from Sacramento to Lakewood in August of last year to be closer to our daughter, son-in-law and new granddaughter. In Sacramento, I was involved with homelessness ministries, and I plan to participate on the Diocesan Homelessness Taskforce here. Along with Gen, I’m representing Christ Church in a local Sacred Ground Circle discussing racism. I bring a passion for prison ministry, which I hope to pursue while here. Hector and I love to camp, we have a Boxer and a Cocker Spaniel, and as I mentioned, are new grandparents to Olive-Rae. I’m thrilled to have been assigned to Christ Church. I’ve met several of you on the Wednesday evening Conversation and Compline, and look forward to meeting and serving with more of you in the future.
Peace in Christ, Deacon Donna Arellano
