Mechanics' Maintenance Team

Flexible Volunteering

Wednesdays from 1pm-4pm at the Central Community Centre

The Mechanics' Maintenance team meet weekly to carry out maintenance activities around the Central Community Centre and Swindon Railway Village.

We carry out activities such as gardening, litter picking and painting.

There is no commitment to joining this group project, so why not come along and give it a try?

In recent weeks, the Mechanics' Maintenance Team have been working at our community allotment in collaboration with CARIG (Central Area Resident Improvement Group) and Swindon Borough Council's Live Well team

This gardening project is a great way to stay active, socialise with others, learn new skills and support the local community. For the next few weeks we will be working on this project.

If you would like to get involved, please c
ontact Dan (07955373172) or feel free to use our Volunteer Enquiry Form.

Heritage and Culture Club

Flexible Volunteering

We host regular volunteer drop-in sessions where you can take part in a group project that explores local history, heritage and culture.

We carry out activities such as archiving, research and oral histories.

There is no commitment to joining this group project, so why not come along and give it a try?

In recent weeks, we have been working on cataloguing our primary sources such as books.

This project is a great way to socialise with others, learn new skills and make local heritage more accessible.

We are particularly looking for those interested in carrying forward an oral histories project which may be featured on local radio!

For more information, or if you would like to get involved, please contact Dan (07955373172) or feel free to use our Volunteer Enquiry Form.

Who lived in a House like this?

Swindon's Famous Railway Village

CAN YOU HELP?

Since the early 1840s these houses have been family homes...

But
WHO ACTUALLY LIVED IN THEM?

Wouldn’t it be great to discover more..?
Who lived there?

Do YOU have stories to share with US?
Do WE have info on YOUR family home?

The Swindon Branch of Wiltshire Family History Society are collaborating with the Mechanics Institute Trust and Central Area Resident Improvement Group on this exciting project.

If you are interested in this project, or would like to know when the next event is taking place, please contact us at swindon@wiltshirefhs.co.uk
