May 2018 Braking News
from the Rockland Bicycle Club

Did you know that May is National Bike Month? Get on your bikes and ride! Here are Five Things to Know about riding in and around Rockland County this month.

  1. Meetings
    Last Month: 9W Bikes hosted the RBC meeting. Topics included bike maintenance basics 101, healthy eating and training tips, and some insights on eBikes.

    May 2018 RBC Meeting: Our May meeting coincides with the RBC’s Ride of Silence on May 16 at 6:15p, an annual event to raise awareness of bike safety issues on local roads and remember cyclists killed or injured in collisions with cars. Please come join us.

  2. Weekly Ride Highlights: On May 12, there’s A Two Bridge / Two Club Ride where RBC and the BTCNJ ride a Lower Hudson loop crossing the Newburgh-Beacon and Bear Mtn Bridges. Check the ride calendar for each week's scheduled rides.

  1. Save The Date(s):
  • June 10: Mix it up with NY & NJ area cyclists when the RBC joins five other bicycle clubs for a scenic ride hosted by the Westchester Cycle Club. Choose from A through C level rides covering either 28, 50, or 67 miles. Meetup at Croton Point Park for a staggered start of 10-15 cyclists per group beginning at 9:00a. Registration is required. Stay tuned to for details.
  • June 12: The Greater Nyack Bike/Walk Master Plan presents its recommendations to create a bicycle network that covers the Nyack river villages and hamlets in the Nyack School District. This meeting is open to the general public.
  1. Rockland County Century: We have a preliminary route for a metric and imperial all-in-Rockland Century on September 23. It's an interesting tour of hilly Rockland. For those of you who are still looking for a 2018 riding goal, this is it. Making the event happen is a big undertaking and we need your help! We are looking for volunteers to help us promote and execute the Tour de Rockland! Email if you can help make this happen!

  2. Help Wanted! We need riders...and writers, too! If you are interested in being a ride leader, helping to publish our monthly Braking News newsletter or being part of a team that will introduce a new look to the website, email

Help Wanted! The RBC is seeking volunteers to help us with this newsletter and our website. Also, we are always looking for new ride leaders and new rides and routes, too! Email to get involved. Until then, Ride Safe!
