When COVID-19 first hit, we were all looking for information to keep ourselves and our families safe. But sometimes it was hard to know where to find it - and who to trust.
We wanted to find a way to help scientists and doctors get their message out - to talk about the vaccines, the variants, and how to stay safe - to audiences who weren't accessing traditional media and news.
So, we created Team Halo: a network of doctors and scientists from around the world who we called our Team Halo Guides. Together our Guides made videos on TikTok - the social media platform young people were using most, and where misinformation had been quickly spreading.
Guides created short, snappy videos that leaned into TikTok trends and challenges to capture young people's attention. Team Halo doctors and scientists learned popular dances, rewrote song lyrics, lip-synced, and created animations, resulting in millions of views, likes, and comments.
Team Halo content provided viewers with a direct line to doctors and scientists and ensured they were kept informed as the situation around COVID-19 and the vaccine unfolded.
