LA BURNING MAN
NOVEMBER 11 2019

Hello!

Fall keeps rolling on with so many great events and ways to connect. A big thank you and congratulations to the Venice Afterburn organizers for putting together such a fun weekend and giving some local artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a beautiful setting.

Remember to submit your Blissmas grant applications by November 13 to be eligible for BEquinox 2020 art grants. Hope to see you all at Blissmas to support our local artists, get a glimpse of future BEquinox projects, and vote on the 2020 effigy!

BEQUINOX ART GRANT APPLICATIONS DUE 11/13

Are you an artist or theme camp who wants to bring a project to BEquinox 2020? Blissmas is your key to getting funding for your art piece or theme camp. Each year, we allocate $15,000 to BEquinox art, theme camps, and art cars. Let us help you build your dream project!

Our annual Blissmas event is your chance to apply for a grant, recruit collaborators, and mingle with fellow burners and artists. Think of it like a "burner science fair." Each project presents a rendering, model, or other sample of your project, and the community votes on art grant recipients. You'll also have a chance to vote on the 2020 effigy. You *must* attend Blissmas to be eligible for a grant, but you are welcome to bring projects without Blissmas funding.

APPLICATIONS DUE NOVEMBER 13:

The BEquinox 2020 theme is Hyjinks!

It has been said that “laughter is the best medicine”. Do you remember hearing a “G” rated joke, see a silly face, or see someone act in a way that might elicit either a giggle or groan from you? Sometimes the simplest things can make us smile, giggle or just feel amazing!

This year’s theme celebrates the mirthful energy that exists in our world. It’s not just about silly jokes, harmless pranks, or wry humor. It’s also about heartfelt gifting, free flows of communication, and perhaps nurturing an end to the social paradigm we find so common in the default world, and a better balance in all of our sexual natures in a fun-loving manner.

You will be entering a carefree, mischievous, playful, celebratory zone called BEquinox 2020 which once again asks: Who will you BE?  What will you BE?  How will you BE?
BURNING MAN 2020: THE MULTIVERSE

If you're anything like me(pretentious and judgmental?), your first reaction to the annual Burning Man theme announcement is, invariably, some version of skepticism. But I usually find that, once I read the Journal post explaining the meaning and reasoning behind the theme choice, I gain a new appreciation for it. Does the theme have much of an effect on everyone's Black Rock City experience in any given year? Most likely not. But I have come to find value in reflecting on it, at least a little, and using it as both a loosely guiding principle for that year's burn and a measure of the event's perception of itself.

This year's Multiverse theme speaks to the anxiety and opportunity brought on by the changes and growing pains we've experienced as an event and as a community in recent years. We have myriad options for how we conduct ourselves, how we grow our community, and how we interact with each other in the future, and we're already engaging in many of them. More than perhaps most other places, Black Rock City gives us, in Stuart Mangrum's words, "the possibility of seeing – or perhaps even traveling – sideways across the branches of reality and experiencing other versions of one’s self and existence." Which path(s) will you take?
