JUNNE 10 2019
Happy June!

Hope your summer is off to a great start. We have some costume swap events coming up for you, an art micro-grant from Venice Afterburn, and theme camps to join. If you haven't come to a newbie orientation yet, you have more chances in June and July. Even if you're a veteran burner, you'll always come away from these events with new ideas!

Bring that playa wear you’re bored with, let someone else have a go at it, and pick up some new stuff for yourself. Or reinvent that old piece with some scissors and glue!
Please bring: playa wear to donate to the exchange; scissors, fabric/craft glue, sewing needles and thread, fabric trim, beads (NO LOOSE SEQUINS), pom poms, reflective tape, EL wire, patches, fake fur, etc!

There are a lot of resources already available online, so we won't reinvent the wheel, but we will post a few useful links and examples on our Facebook group (LA Burning Man) and in future newsletter editions. If you have any specific questions, you'll get the fastest (and snarkiest, but that's Burning Man) answers by asking the hive mind on the LA Burners Facebook group. And as always, feel free to email us with your questions!

If you’re near Palm Springs, check out the annual costume swap party happening there July 11.

WHEN: Thursday, July 11, 2019, 7 PM – 11 PM
WHERE: 1020 E Via Colusa, Palm Springs, CA 92262

You are ALL invited to come to the Palm Springs Burners annual Burner Clothing Swap party. We will have lots of items to choose from and you are encouraged to bring some Burner clothing you no longer wear, fit into, or want. Bring some! Take some! We will also have a few vendors selling fantastic Burner wear and hold a mock fashion show at the end for you to show off your fabulous finds.

Food! Drink! Friends! Fun! Save the date and start looking for what you would like to bring to give away (please only Burner wear - last year we hauled two bags of normal clothing off to a thrift store).

A message from the Venice Afterburn production team:

We can finally announce the OFFICIAL DATES for the Venice Afterburn 2019: Nov 1st-3rd! Yes it's a little later than the usual dates. We were not able, for a number of reasons, to have the event at the end of September like usual, but hey.. it will be a big burn-o-ween and Dia de los Muertos celebration!

The fundraising goal for May 24's event was met, and to show our gratitude, we want to give back to our burner community and offer a small grant of $300 to a 2019 Burning Man small art project that has a crowdfunding campaign that is up and running.

So please send us your suggestions by posting a link as a comment on this post - please indicate whether the project is on Indiegogo, Kickstarter or GoFundMe and whether it's a Burning Man honorarium project or entirely self-funded.

Our team will then get together and vote; ability to set up the piece, or part of it, at the Venice Afterburn 2019 is a plus but not a mandatory requirement.

In the future, one of our missions is to be able to offer artist grants, and creating a 501c3 (Dogtown Artists United) was the first step towards this goal.

See you on the playa!

We want to connect burners that want to give something (time, energy, talent, or other resources on or off playa) with people/theme camps/art projects that need that gift. Here is the start of a list of camps and projects looking for awesome volunteers. We'll update the list as more people fill out the survey.

We will also host a casual, fun “theme camp matchmaking/job fair” event to help you all meet each other in person. Details TBA.

If you want to be added to this list, you can still fill out the survey here.
