April 16 2019

Hi LA burners,

I hope everyone has been enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time outdoors! It's about time we plan some daytime outdoor meetups for this year. The next few months will be full of fun events including newbie orientations, costume swaps, and more. Maybe another beach bonfire?

The Westside-Adjacent Meetup is tonight, so if you find yourself near Culver City, join us! Details below.

The theme for Burning Man 2019 is Metamorphoses, and as the year goes on, it seems that it could not be more fitting. The Burning Man event itself is facing threats and challenges as it grows, and our local community went through some major changes as we transitioned to our new home and continue to plan for exciting things for our future. It's a good time to remember the inevitability of impermanence and the role of change and growth in our lives.

From Darryl Van Rhey's October 2018 Journal post on the theme:

"None of us knows what they will become, but we can seek to understand where we are at this point in our transformative trajectory, this fleeting chord on the strings of existence."

This has never been more true for our community than now. Burning Man, after all, is always labeled as "transformative." Metamorphosis and transformation are an integral part of our spirit.

And remember.. Burning Man was better next year.

Hey Burners! The LA League of Arts web team is looking for your help! Are you a web developer, UX designer or tech savvy person? We are looking for volunteers to help redesign & revamp the several websites we have in the LA burning man community. Looking for some volunteer hours or a new portfolio project? Comfortable working with Wordpress (or willing to learn)? We would love your help! Please send us an email at

David Brown, Guest Curator of Special Projects for the No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man Exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum is looking for participation from our awesome Burner community! He is asking Burners to send in photos from Black Rock City to be used in the exhibit.

He has not received many submissions to date and really wants this part of the exhibit to stand out. He loves the idea of the photos being gifted at the conclusion of the exhibit or taken out to the Temple and burned, and is open to specific intentions and suggestion from the Burnerverse. He is requesting photo submissions by May 15, 2019.

He is also looking for Burners who wish to get involved with the opening and ongoing support of the exhibit. If you are interested, you can reach out to him directly at
