Happy autumn!

The days are getting shorter, but there's no shortage of opportunities to get together with burner family. You'll find **volunteerism** is a theme throughout today's newsletter. Burning Man projects and events happen because people get together and practice Communal Effort, Civic Responsibility, and Gifting of their time to create beautiful experiences for each other. If you've been seeking a way to get involved, keep reading!

Speaking of Civic Responsibility, have you taken your 2019 BRC Census?

In this issue:

Have you ever been driving into Black Rock City, ready to receive your Greeters hug and set up your camp, only to be stopped by some folks in lab coats asking you personal questions? These beautiful nerds are the Black Rock City Census team, and they serve a very important purpose.

"Filling out your annual post-Burn Census is critical to the survival of the event. The data we collect is relevant to the media as well as to the organization itself — to help plan traffic and encourage carpooling and use of the Burner Express Bus and Burner Express Air programs, to inform discussions with Pershing and Washoe counties, and, starting in 2016, to collect new data about how Burners dispose of trash and Leaving No Trace, to name a few examples."

Not only does the Census team collect valuable demographic information about our city, they're also researchers who work on fascinating topics that range from adult play to diversity, community-building, and much more. You can learn more about these topics and how they use BRC Census data in their own research in this Journal post.

You can also see the 2018 Census results HERE.

Most importantly, if you went to Black Rock City this year, please go fill out your 2019 Census!

Join us for Uncompression, the rogue bastard angry little brother of that other event that is on hiatus!

DJs, mutant vehicles, flow performers, artists, theme camps, freaks, and other participants—we want you! Contact for details!

The parking lot will be gated and permitted, so you can wander out there with food and drinks, to admire mutant vehicles, art installations, and flow performances, or party inside on the dance floor, smoking patio, pool hall, and bar. Our capacity is in the hundreds instead of the thousands, so this is more like the loft parties from the old days than like a giant festival. And although everyone here has been to that thing in the desert, this event has no affiliation whatsoever with the LLC that owns and operates Burning Man.
