JUNE 24 2019
Hi friends!

Some important news below: BLM issued their final EIS, the report that will help dictate the future of Black Rock City; the downtown LA meetup at Theory Labs is back; and join us for the last newbie orientation of 2019. Also info on the Burner Express (a great way to get to and from the playa and avoid the hassle and expense of driving in) and a call for creative contributions from Burners Without Borders.

The man burns in 68 days!

The Bureau of Land Management has issued the final Environmental Impact Statement regarding the future of the Burning Man event. You can access the full documents HERE

From the Burning Man Journal:

First, while there have been some questions about 2019 since the EIS was published, let’s be clear: Black Rock City 2019 is happening. Like you, we’re deep into planning for the event, so don’t hesitate to keep cranking on those amazing projects, art installations, mutant vehicles and theme camps. We’re looking forward to yet another incredible Burning Man event.

We still have questions for BLM and will be working with them to understand their new requirements when the Record of Decision is published in the middle of July. We will also be working to ensure that concerns expressed by BLM, members of the public, and our cooperating agencies are addressed in future years.

We want to thank you again for your continued interest in the EIS process and for your incredible support. We have been reminded again and again that our community is articulate, well-read, driven to help create change, and can eloquently defend the event and the culture when put to the test. Thank you.

Good news for central LA and eastside burners: the beloved meetup at Theory Labs, inside the Brewery Arts Complex, is back!

It's been forever!!! Time to tell stories, share pictures and reconnect with your LA burner neighbors. This is a gifting event so bring drinks, snacks and anything you want to impose on others.

Due to underage drinking concerns, we'll need hosts at the bar and would really appreciate people volunteering for an hour or so. Also, help cleaning up is enormously helpful if you're willing. Please send a PM if you can help out.

Suggest parking on S. Ave 21. Walk south through the gate towards the giant smokestack, take two rights, walk until you see the big red roll up door and you should be here.

WHEN: Friday, June 28
8pm - 2am
WHERE: Theory Labs
624 Moulton Ave, LA, 90031
(Inside the Brewery Artist Lofts)

Parking in the area is limited, so please consider carpooling. Save gas, find (or be) the DD, and make new friends!

See the Facebook event for more info.

Join us for the last events in our in-person Newbie Orientation series:

North Hollywood
WHEN: Saturday June 29, 3pm - 6pm
WHERE: The Other Door
10437 Burbank Blvd
The NoHo burner meetup is also happening here at the same time, so stick around after the orientation!

Downtown LA
WHEN: Sunday July 21, 2pm - 6pm
WHERE: Big Art Labs
651 Clover St
This special event will also include a costume swap and some time at the end to work on crafting and getting your costumes or accessories playa ready. Bring playa clothes to donate to the swap (reasonably decent condition please, nothing MOOPy). After you're done exchanging clothes, reinvent that old piece with some scissors and glue!
Please bring: playa wear to donate to the exchange; scissors, fabric/craft glue, sewing needles and thread, fabric trim, beads (NO LOOSE SEQUINS), pom poms, reflective tape, EL wire, patches, fake fur, etc!

If you haven't already, read the First-Timer's Guide on the Burning Man website for a wealth of useful information.

Do you know how you're getting to TTITD yet? Have you considered the Burner Express Bus?

Burner Express is back again this year to serve your bus pooling needs to Black Rock City. We have services from San Francisco and Reno. Buses will run to the Playa Saturday, Aug 24 through Thursday, Aug 29 and return trips beginning on Friday, Aug 30 through peak Exodus periods. The last Burner Express Bus departing Black Rock City is at 10AM on Tuesday, September 3.

The Burner Express Bus is a bus service offered by Burning Man to transport Burners from San Francisco and Reno to Black Rock City and back. Riding the Burner Express offers faster arrival, speedier entrance, reserved camping, and expedited departures.

Consider using the Burner Express to save time, money, gas, and experience a totally different entry/Exodus experience. Get more info and tickets HERE.

If you're looking for a theme camp or art project to contribute your time and talents to for Burning Man 2019, please take a look at our growing camp & art project list HERE. That document includes some brief info about each project and the type of people and skills they're seeking, and we encourage you to get in touch and figure out which group of folks feels like the right fit for you.
