This week: Wow, this one escaped me. 😯

Big Smallmouth from Wednesday trip up the Penobscot river. 20.25 inches/3.4lbs
Hey there folks,
Welp this week got away from me. Luck for you I usually don't sleep well Friday nights after chemo. Spent all day Wednesday up the Penobscot river fishing for smallmouth bass with my oldest bestest friend. Caught lots of bass, and 2 big ones. The one in the picture above is the biggest, and the other was a bit smaller. Most of them ranged about 12-14 inches, and 2 lbs or so. Nice day, and real happy since I haven't been fishing for more than a year.
This week is just some links and thoughts on a few books.
Here's some stuff I thought was worth sharing this week.
  1. My thoughts on Catch and Release are that I don't care for it so much, but on the Penobscot we're still not too sure about pollution, etc. so I didn't have to many quams about it, esp. for Smallmouth bass. If fishing on a lake i probably would have kept a couple. I do not C&R trout or other fish as long as they are within size and bag limits. More on the C&R debate.
  2. I didn't link to Deb Lawson last week, but her rug sculptures of animals are magical and mystical and great.
  3. Sam Larson does some interesting stuff. Instagram Website (where he sell prints)
  4. Also Ryan Kirby, who's more of a traditional wildlife artist, and mostly paints deer and turkeys, and other game birds and animals. Instagram Website His instagram has a bunch of process and sketch stuff, and is fun to follow.
  5. A couple vids from A Tribe Called red.
  6. The documentary about Miriam Beerman (Expressing the Chaos) Vimeo trailer was a revelation for me Free for Amazon Primers. Her website is here.
  7. Started reading Barry Lopez' Giving Birth to Thunder (Powells) (Kindle) It's a book of short tales about Coyote, one of the Native American tricksters. Great so far. Next from him will be Desert Notes/River Notes (Powells) (Kindle)
Kissing the fish for luck. (Better than the Blarney Stone)
This wasn't the giant, but the other good sized one I caught.
That's it for this week.
