Another Happy Adoption

Did You Catch this on our Facebook Page? Our Facebook is loaded with happy stories like this one!

Melody, our sweet and spunky little Persian girl, was adopted! It's been a while since she went to her new home, but we are ready to tell her story now. And It's a really cool story!

Spoiler alert! Her adopter was her previous owner! For reasons many of us understand and have gone through ourselves, she had to give her up. She had fallen on hard times and wanted her kitty to be taken care of. She loves her so much that she made the hardest and most selfless decision that any animal owner could make and put Melody's care and well being above her own.

She got back on her feet and is doing very well now. Fast forward to about a week ago when she happened to see Melody on our website. She immediately contacted us and sent pictures confirming it was her kitty. They had a really special bond and she missed her and wanted her back. She then came down to the shelter as soon as she could and adopted her! It was so cool to see them reconnect.

They are both so excited and happy to have found each other again! And we're so happy we could help reunite these two! We love happy stories, especially when they involve our very own kitties from SFOF!

Celebrating Our Youngest Volunteers

National Volunteer Appreciation Week was April 7-13, 2019 and we wanted to give a special shout-out to some of our amazing volunteers!

Here at SFOF, we have many great volunteers, many who have been with us 10+ years! We cannot say enough about our dedicated, hardworking volunteers. The care they give our cats in the shelter, making it the best possible (hopefully) short term stays with us. The fosters who take care of our smallest charges with round the clock bottle feedings and love. Our dedicated thrift store ladies who always make the store welcoming and beautiful. I can’t tell you how many people are surprised it’s a thrift store!

We did want to give a special shout out to some of our youngest volunteers who partnered with us through the Salem Keizer Schools. Gabby, Grace, and Natalie have been dedicated volunteers in the shelter and thrift store this school year. Not only do they earn school credit for their volunteer time but they also learn valuable work skills.

We want to thank our new young volunteers and encourage them to keep volunteering within their community. What great young adults! It's been a pleasure to get to know and work with them!

SFOF Executive Director

Gabby and Grace are students at West Salem High school and have put in many hours of cat care between them.
When they are not cleaning kennels and feeding the cats they love to get paid in kitty kisses.

Natalie is a student in the Salem Keizer Community Transition Programs and has volunteered in the thrift store helping to keep it looking good and using her customer service skills.

We love you, Trinity!

We can't even express how devastated we are to lose our Trinity. She has been such a huge part of not only our organization but our hearts as well. She was so eager to learn everything she could and help out in whatever way she was able to. It is a massive shock to have her taken away so abruptly and in a senseless and horrible way. She was such a force to be reckoned with, with a compassionate heart that aided in her goal to help all the animals and kitties she came across. Trinity being gone from us is a hole in our lives, hearts, and spirits. We will never forget her and we will never forget the joy she brought to everyone she came in contact with.

We are heartbroken for her mother and the rest of the family. We want to help them in any way we possibly can. She was family for all of us here at SFOF, and we are there for the family. Please donate to her family for her final expenses if you can. And please share!

We love you, Trinity!

Note: Trinity Watt and her two friends were killed by a drunk driver in Keizer on June 2nd, 2019.

Goodbye to Our #1 Cat

It is with sad broken hearts that Salem Friends of Felines lost our #1 cat Hogarth (hoagie) on March 26th --- just after his 18th birthday party celebration. He lived a very long life and was loved and spoiled by all that knew him.
