ALERT LEVEL TWO GUIDELINES
UPDATE 26 MAY 2020

 “Play it Safe”

“do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:4
Message for Archbishop Philip on Updates to Ministry in Alert Level 2
GOVERNMENT LEVEL TWO UPDATE 25 MAY 2020
from www.COVID19.govt.nz
  • From 12 noon Friday 29 May, gatherings can be held with up to 100 people.
  • The new limit applies to gatherings at your home, events outside of home and public venues – including church services, weddings, funerals and tangihanga.
  • When holding a gathering, play it safe — maintain hygiene standards and meet existing record-keeping requirements for contact tracing.
  • Community sports will also be able to operate more easily, and sporting codes will be working on further guidance with Sport NZ.
  • Cabinet will again review the settings of Alert Level 2 on 8 June and have agreed that no later than 22 June, 4 weeks from today, they will consider a move to Alert Level 1.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR US?
Please note: the Detailed Guidelines already made available apply and are available on www.wtanglican.nz/covid-19
  1. Churches may re-open for Public Services: weddings and funerals are permitted within the government guidelines up to 100 people.
  2. Communion in one kind will be permitted.
  3. Congregational Singing is not permitted until further notice as we await government guidelines. There is evidence of singing being responsible for ‘super-spread’ of the virus.
  4. No food or drinks till level 1.
  5. Start simply - Take small steps: don’t try to begin everything: consider making your first church gathering a service of the Word rather than a Eucharist with all the additional logistics required.
  6. Prepare your site carefully for re-entry: including offices and other spaces.
  7. Clergy and lay employees may return to offices which have been cleaned to required standards and can be maintained at safe levels for a working environment.
  8. The Diocese has provided a template entitled “Action Plan for the Provision of Ministry - Alert Level 2”.
    • This must be completed and signed off by your Archdeacon before you can return to your buildings. The template can be accessed on the web site and an example can also be found there.
    • This is to help ensure you are meeting all government requirements and have everything in place to support Parishes to re-open their premises.
