February 2020

Hi neighbor,

Leap day is more than just another 24 hours of Rochester winter. Consider it a bonus chance to take in some great art around the neighborhood. We've listed a few options, along with other notable goings-on in March. Have a look.

Work on view now through March 22 at Image City Photography Gallery.
Pictured (click to enlarge): "Hearts" by Devin Mack, "Alpine Goat" by Dan Silver, "Dark Swing" by JFK/AJVK (John Kosboth), and "Erie Canal" by Mack. More info
Is movement more your thing?

Check out Commotion Dance Theater performing Leap Day Dance and Poetry February 29 at 8 PM at Writers & Books, or the 6 PM student circus show at Roc City Circus.
2020 Census: up for the count

Starting in March, you'll be hearing quite a lot about the 2020 Census. To put it lightly, it's important. A new online option and assistance available at every library will help make things easier.

Here's how you can pitch in to make sure everyone in Rochester gets counted:

Fill it out (please)
📣 Bug your friends and neighbors to (please) fill it out
💲 Get paid(!) to help others fill it out - learn more at the SEAC Census Takers Job Fair on March 12
Another temp opportunity

If you like working with the public but the 2020 Census jobs aren't a good fit, what about a short stint as a public transit ambassador? Apply by March 6 to assist riders between June 29 and July 5, 2020.

(By the way, if you like working with the public but you don't want any of that pesky money, perhaps volunteering with the NOTA Neighborhood Association is for you.)
Around NOTA:

- Open mics are a NOTA specialty. Fairport Brewing Company (University Ave.) holds the next session of their music series open mic on March 3, starting at 7 PM. Writers & Books hosts Wide Open Mic readings every first Wednesday, upcoming on March 4 at 7 PM.

- The next Reshaping Rochester lecture from the Community Design Center features Atlanta's Carol Naughton, President of Purpose Built Communities, on Wednesday, March 25 at 6 PM at Gleason Works.

- Weekend Happenings is a good way to stay updated on family friendly activities each week throughout the city.
