Monday 7th March 2022,

Kia ora Bradford Whānau,

Week 6 already - the term seems to be flying by!  Having spent really enjoyable time teaching in Rooms, 1, 4 and 5 this week I was impressed with how quickly the tamariki have settled into new classes and routines.  This sentiment has been echoed in many interim reports that I have read prior to them being sent home at the end of this week.  That important sense of unity and belonging (Kotahitanga) cannot not be underestimated in a child's schooling so it is pleasing to see evidence of this first-hand in classes.  An anniversary summary of learning is due for a number of children in Y1-3, therefore those children will have a learning conference this term in-lieu of an interim report.   Teachers will send home further detail about this on Friday.

Walk n Wheel Week
This week is Walk n Wheel week!  We will be trying to encourage the children to use active transport to get to or from our school.  Teachers will be recording who bikes, scoots or walks to school to have a chance at winning a prize.  If you live further away, have a go at dropping your child down the bottom of Bradford Street as this will be counted. If your child is in Burrow then see if they can meet you down the bottom of the street at the end of the day. A text to Val or Mandy when you are in place waiting will help with safety.  Let's see how many we can get walking or wheeling!!!

This week tamariki will be coming home with raffle cards for two different raffles so please keep an eye on schoolbags for these.  The first raffle is for the Firewood from our giant Larch that was felled in the Christmas period.  Our second raffle is our very popular annual Easter raffle (further details about this one below).  If anyone wants extra cards for their workplace then please be in touch via email to the office.

PTA News
We are incredibly grateful for all the wonderful work our PTA do to support our school.  This past Wednesday I attended the first PTA meeting for 2022.  Thankfully, Luci and Lacinda are staying on as a strong foundation.  Marama Stienstra was welcomed as a new member onto the committee as we simultaneously farewelled our incredibly hard-working Treasurer Aleisha Kirkman.  Thank you also to Lisa O'Donnell who is continuing on as a long-standing member of the PTA this year.    If you are considering becoming a member of the PTA or would like to just offer your availability to lighten the load by helping with one or two of the annual fundraisers then please be in touch. Many hands really do make light work and it all greatly benefits our children.

Introducing our 2022 PTA
Kia ora, I’m Lacinda, Levi’s mum. I enjoying hiking, reading books, strength training and keeping busy! I’m a 4th year social work student and just love being a part of a team, advocating, helping, supporting, guiding and creating relationships in the community. It takes a village to raise a child, and Bradford is that village. Mauri mahi, mauri ora (Do the mahi, get the treats).
Kia ora, my name is Luci, mum of Martin (year 3) and Theresa (starting at Bradford next week). I love reading, baking, crafts and outdoor activities with the family. I am a neurobiologist studying brain diseases. The PTA gives me a chance to contribute to and support the Bradford whānau.
Hi I'm Marama, mum to Jasper (7) and Dusky (6). We like to go swimming at Brighton beach, bike rides, Moana pool, video games, and movies. I am an Occupational Therapist at Wakari Hospital. We are new to Bradford school and just love it, such awesome staff, kids, and whānau.

Kia ora everyone,

The PTA will soon be sending out our annual easter raffle to win an Easter egg hamper! We are asking for donations of easter eggs, chocolate goodies or salty treats to help top up the hamper. If you are happy to donate, please pop this into the box with your room number on which will be in the foyer.

Our Kapahaka tutor Jamahl gave the junior children a lesson in taiaha this week.  Massive thanks to Fresh Choice Roslyn who have kindly sponsored this term's tuition.
Room 6 children recently had a full day learning Cycle Skills and Safety with the Bike Otago team.  The progress in the children's abilities and confidence was clearly evident in just one day with such expert tuition.  Some of the children were invited to venture beyond the school gates to demonstrate their new skills and understandings on the road under the careful guidance of the team.  The remaining children were given some tuition on how to get the most out of our bike track.
Entry to the School will remain restricted through the gate by the Library and we shall also continue with the staggered finish times.   Please phone Sonja on 4536 254 or Emma on 027 559 4616 if you need to make an appointment.  We are happy to deliver your child to the gate if you require early collection.  Please be advised that the office is not attended on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons so early notification is preferable where possible.   We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support in this matter which also reduces the risk of you being identified as 'close contacts' as happened to a couple of parents and our wrestling coach scooped into our first round of isolation.

Bradford's Board of Trustees is looking for whānau of our tamariki who are interested in being a part of our School Board.

This is a great way to be involved in the running of the school and have a greater understanding of the work that goes on behind the white board.

So if you feel you would like to be involved or would like to find out more information please contact the Board Chair;

Craig Earl

Bradford School's Enrolment Zone officially ceased at the end of last year.  What this means is that we can return to accepting student's from beyond the Bradford boundary that may like to join our special place. In the past, it has been really heartbreaking having to turn away prospective families who were not in Zone.

If you know of families who are interested in attending Bradford School we encourage you to please let them know we are now accepting students across all year levels for 2022.  Equally if you have a younger child who you are intending to enrol, we ask that you please let Sonja know so we can put them on our list.  This forward planning assists greatly in our staffing and classroom configurations to ensure we deliver the best adult to student ratios we can for our tamariki.
