Dear Friends,
It’s here again, Advent… did it sneak up on you?
Richard Floyd writes, “Advent is a time for telling the truth—the truth of our weariness and our anxiety, yes, but also the truth of the relentless generosity of God, which opens up futures that seem to be shut down. He reminds us “to consider the newness and abundance of God that is always breaking into our settled lives…. Advent is a time for waking up …. It is a time for relinquishing some of the control in order to receive the impossible from God.” (1)
Author Kathy Coffey writes, “Our Advent yearning is not for Christ to come: He already has come in history. We long for our world to be saturated with the Gospel, permeated with Christ’s presence, and for our hearts to become more compassionate.” (2) Coffey encourages us to wake up to the goodness around us, to the kindness of others, a moment of time in a busy schedule, the beauty of nature, and a conversation with a friend. When we look for goodness in the ordinariness of life, we awaken to the “abundance of God that is always breaking into our lives.”
Generous God, Break open our imagination this Advent so that we might see a world decisively shaped by your fidelity. Aid us in relinquishing control in order to receive your newness. Amen.

Wishing you a creative and prayerful Advent season!
