The momentum around solving the challenge of plastic waste is building as we move into 2019. There is increased need for collaboration and breaking down silos to enable us to collectively tackle the problem. I had the opportunity to be in Davos for the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting where I saw first hand how it is top of mind for business and world leaders.  It is on almost every agenda, whether you come at it from interest in the oceans, circular economy, economic development, technology, or supporting at-risk populations. The good news is we need contributions from all those sectors to create the impact we need.

A week earlier, I joined the launch of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste and its unprecedented financial commitment from a group of nearly 30 major corporations that committed more than $1 billion to real solutions to end plastic waste.  Support for The Incubator Network by Circulate Capital and SecondMuse was one of the first financial commitments of the Alliance.  Its funding is intended to help grow our work, which we announced last September with the initial support from the US State Department and our existing corporate partners including PepsiCo, our first investor, and Procter & Gamble, Dow, Danone, Unilever and Coca-Cola. You can read more about the Alliance in my recent post.

In addition to being a part of the global dialogue, we are moving forward with our work in South and Southeast Asia to deploy more than $100 million in solutions to the ocean plastic pollution problem. We are actively looking for opportunities to partner with entrepreneurs and emerging projects in the region.

We look forward to seeing the breaking down of silos as this is a challenge that will take a diverse set of stakeholders and solutions to really start to stop the flow and catalyze the funding needed to tackle this issue.

Please join us in this effort.
