Principal News - Fall Festival Is Coming Soon!

Happy Fall RCE Families
November and Fall Festival are just around the corner.  Many of you have already bought tickets.  There is still plenty of time to buy tickets and sign up for a job at the Festival.  There are numerous booths that still do not have volunteers to work.  It takes involvement and volunteers to make our Fall Festival a success.  If you can help us out contact .

Yesterday our Campus Improvement Team had their first official meeting for this year.  Our topic of discussion was safety and security at RCE.  Our next CIT meeting will be on Nov. 17.  This meeting will be open to any parents that want to attend.  SBISD Police Officer Fleming will be coming to guide us as we continue to review and discuss our safety procedures. It is important for schools to have plans and procedures that identify how to be prepared for any emergency.
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful cool Houston weather this week-end.

Fall Festival - "RCE Rally" Information

Our annual Fall Festival is right around the corner.  We hope you are as excited as we are for November 2nd!  Our committee has been working hard over the past several months to secure new games and food to make this event even better than last year.  You wont want to miss it!  Here are a couple of things we want you to know.

  1. Tickets will be sold this week in the Cafeteria Tues – Friday and then again Friday evening at the event.
  1. The Raffle will be displayed beginning Monday and the kids can start putting tickets in their favorite items each day at lunch on Tuesday – Friday.  The Raffle will also be open during the event.  The drawings for the items will be at 7:00 pm.
  1. Everyone should have received an email from their room mom about their assigned booth with a Sign up genius to volunteer. Please, Please, Please sign up for a shift.  Any booth that requires a lot of work is run by the company.  WE CAN NOT DO THIS WITH OUT YOU!
  1. Please consider signing up to help with Set up on Friday.  We have shifts from 12-3.  We had 40 volunteers last year and right now we have 5.  A huge part of this event is set up!  Please visit this link to sign up to help!
  1. The Cake Walk Donations, Confetti Egg Contest, Pumpkin Decorating Contest and Stuffed Animal Drive will all be happening again this year.  Start collecting your confetti eggs and stuffed animals and drop them off at the front of the school anytime between now and Oct 31st.  Be creative and have fun making a pumpkin with your child(ren) and enter to win the Pumpkin contest!  Winners will be announced the week of the Festival.

Thank you for your help and support of this event.  We are so excited for all of the fun that is to come!  See you Friday evening!!

RCE Watchdogs General Store Sign Up

RCE Watchdogs will be managing the General Store once again. This is how we get funding through the PTA so please sign up for an hour or longer to help manage and sell at the General Store. It is super easy all you need to do is have fun and take tickets for each of the items. We will need 6-8 volunteers for each hour during the festival. Plus set up and take down.

So pick a couple of slots and sign up, then wear your WatchDog T-shirt and come out and help.

Also we will need 6 guys to help the night before with inflating the inflatables. This is done at my house and cold beverages are provided.

Notes from the Library

Thank you for a very successful Book Fair. With the funds generated through Book Fair we will purchase books, materials for students to use and bring in authors and speakers. We have already purchased $1000.00 worth of books for the library based on the books students asked for in the Book Fair. Thank you! Thank you! Our next Book Fair is a BOGO fair where we do not make a profit - but students are able to get books for summer reading.

The next PTA meeting is Friday, November 9th. After the meeting stay in the KIVA and we'll have a session about all of the on-line resources available to you and your children 24/7. If you are unable to make the training, feel free to drop by the library and learn about the resources when you are at the school. The e-books provide for reading at any time! We'll also share out about our Google accounts for students....there is so much more to Google than just searching.

Thank you for supporting the library and its programs. We are here to support and encourage the students at RCE.

Academic Calendar Survey - Round 2

Dear SBISD Families, Staff and Community Members,
Thanks to the more than 3,400 of you who responded to our recent calendar survey.
We are now requesting your input on the SBISD Calendar Survey - Round II.

Here’s why:
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) shifted the testing window for the 2019-2020 STAAR test, with testing now scheduled to end on May 21, 2020. This shift, combined with an early Memorial Day weekend, makes ending school prior to Memorial Day in the 2019-2020 unfeasible, as our students would take the STAAR test the last week of school.
Given this new information, the District Improvement Team has developed new draft calendars for the 2019-2020 school year for your review and feedback.

Our first-round calendar drafts for 2020-2021 did not account for a presidential election day in November 2020. Feedback around safety and security received from parents and staff following the 2016 presidential election, given that our schools are used by Harris County as election polling sites, has led district senior leadership to request that Election Day 2020 be a student holiday.
Thus, we have used the preferred Round I 2020-2021 calendar and created two new options for community consideration, with Nov. 3, 2020, as a student holiday.
