Principal News

Dear Parents,

We are two days and one full week into the new school year. Things are going very smoothly and we love getting to know your children!

Beginning Monday, August 26, we will be implementing some new procedures.

  1. We do not open the front doors until 7:15. At that time students may go sit in the cafeteria. Breakfast is available for $.75. Students will be dismissed to classes at 7:40.
  2. The tardy bell rings at 7:55am. After that time, you will need to park your car, bring your child into school and sign him/her in at the front desk. There will be a sign rolled into parent drive at 7:55 to remind you.
  3. You may eat lunch with your child beginning August 26. Please note that you will not be able to eat with them in the cafeteria. You will be able to sit at the picnic tables just outside of the library. Please do not prop the door open. When you are finished with lunch, please call the office 713-251-6700 and someone will let you in.
  4. We have slowly rolled out the new Remind Bus App. If you have questions about getting alerts for buses, please email Jenny Steane @
  5. On a separate note, Bus 88 is very crowded. At this time we are asking that you not let your child have a friend ride with them on this bus. This allows students to have adequate space to seat 2-3 students. Thanks for your help!

2019 RCE PTA Family Underwriting Campaign

RCE’s Family Underwriting Campaign is the one donation opportunity where 100% of the funds received are used at RCE. Your tax-deductible contributions fund the following staff positions and programs that are not funded by the district and would not be possible without you:

  • FIVE staff positions (two math interventionists, two reading interventionists, and the assistant librarian)
  • 2 field trips per grade
  • Teacher workshops/continuing education
  • Grade level plays
  • Hands on Science
  • Outdoor Learning Center
  • Science Fair
  • Technology upgrades and cultural programs

Our RCE children receive the highest quality education, so please help us make sure we can continue to support our wonderful teachers and special programs. Last year only 38% of families participated in the Family Underwriting Campaign. Imagine what we could do if that increased to 60%?

        Recognition Level                       Donation
        Platinum                                        $2,000 +
        Gold                                              $1,500-$1,999
        Silver                                             $1,000-$1,499
        Bronze                                           $500-$999
        Friend of Rummel Creek               $250-$450
        Neighbor of Rummel Creek          $100-$249
Supporter of Rummel Creek         $Under $100

Family contributions will be listed in the Student Directory.  The deadline to appear in the directory is Friday, September 13th.

Through the generosity of our families, we are able to ensure an exceptional education for our students. Let’s continue the tradition of tremendous support for RCE to ready our kids and our school for success at the highest level!

If you accidently skipped this on the Big Form, you can contribute online through the special PTA Underwriting Form.

Company matching: Be sure to ask your employer if they match charitable contributions. You can indicate this on the Big Form. These funds also go 100% to RCE!

Questions or if you would prefer to pay by check, please contact Leslie Alexander at or Laurie Davis at

Notes from the Nurse

RCE will be conducting vision, hearing, height and weight screening starting on Sept 16th and ending on or around Sept 26th for our students in PreK, Kinder, 1st, 3rd and 5th graders. We will also screen new RCE 2nd and 4th graders.

Please remember to send your child to school WITH their glasses or contact lenses during this time. We need many volunteers to help us with this state, required screening. If you're able to volunteer, please visit the Sign-Up Genius link:

Thank you!

Odyssey of the Mind

Program Presentation Tuesday Sept 10th 6-7:00pm in the Library

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

RCE Fiddlers

Come and Join the Fiddlers!
You can learn how to play the violin right at your own school.  SBISD offers violin lessons in 6 of the elementary schools.  The programs are funded by the parents and the parents learn how to be the home teacher.  Some parents even rent their own violin!

Students have one 15-minute private lesson per week and one 45 group lesson with the other beginners. We have concerts, solo contest, book graduation, and we learn how to read music.

For further information contact Mrs. Hemphill at
