New Wines & Winter Sale
Dear fellow wine lovers,

The celebrate the end end of another year of great wine discoveries I've added 20 new Portuguese, Greek and Italian wines to my website. They include white and red wines as well as two LBV Ports and four new dessert wines, which I'd somewhat neglected up until now and which I've always found good for holiday meals and other celebrations.

The first new wines were long overdue: the photo of the Douro Valley from Quinta do Crasto's terrace has graced my website's home page since the start, but I only recently found an importer who could offer a reliable supply of their wines for a good price in Belgium. Starting with those that I like best, I've added Quinta do Crasto's excellent rosé, Douro Superior red, Roquette & Cazes, their Old Vines, their iconic Tinta Roriz and their late-bottled vintage Port. They are all great wines and are well worth the price, which is admittedly not cheap for the Old Vines & Tinta Roriz.

Also from Portugal, I've also added another LBV Port from Quinta das Carvalhas; Aveleda's award-winning Alvarinho vinho verde; Vale d. Maria's rich white Vinhas do Sabor; Esporão's elegant white Reserva; and two desserts wines from Moscatel and rare Moscatel Roxo grapes, José Maria da Fonseca's Alambre Moscatel do Setúbal and the DSF Roxo, respectively.

From Italy I've added a wonderful, mineral white wine, Dolianova's Montesicci, as well as the same vineyard's amazing Passito made from sun-dried Moscato grapes.

From Greece I've added the organic Assyrtiko Vóila from Lyrarakis in Crete; Apostolos Thymiopoulos's unusual Rosé de Xinomavro from Macedonia, Grampsas's rich "At the Roots of the Mountain" red from Avgoustiatis grapes grown on Zakynthos island; the special Triton from Mavrodaphne grapes and the Achéron from Kolliniatiko grapes--both produced by Markogianni Winery near Olympia; Argyros's exquisite, woody Mavrotragano from the eponymous and rare grapes on the island of Santorini; and Douloufakis's sweet Helios made from sun-dried Liatiko grapes in Crete.

Lastly, I'm offering my own take on Google's "I'm feeling lucky" search option: a Blind Tasting set of six wines that I choose for you and which will include a cross-section of the award-winning wines from my cellar for 80 euros. You can give me a steer if you want ("more white, less red" or "I don't like tannins"), otherwise I'll just guess what you might like.

FOR ONE WEEK ONLY, as a sort of extended Black Friday introductory sale, I'll offer 10% off on all the new wines mentioned above. Enter the discount code NEWWINES at the checkout (it will only apply to the new wines).

Please do check them out if you're looking for some special, unusual wines to offer anyone (including yourself!) for gifts! Each purchase supports biodiversity by encouraging winemakers to continue to invest in rare and local grape varieties. ;-)

Next wine tastings

I have scheduled -- but not yet published -- the next three wine tastings for January, February and March. After two blind tastings in November and December I'll go back to geographical themes again for a while:
  • Jan. 27 -- Portugal
  • February 17 -- Spain
  • March 19 -- Belgium
Please save the date if you're interested. I will create the Eventbrite invitations over the next couple of weeks, really hoping that the COVID situation will allow me to proceed with the tastings by then. You can also follow my Facebook page, where I will publish the new tastings as soon as I create them.
