Black History: Not Just a Month |
|
We invite you to celebrate the achievements of African Americans at Johns Hopkins not just in February, but everyday. Diversity helps us push boundaries of discovery, transform health care, advance medical education and create hope for humanity.
National Black History Month was first observed in 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson proposed celebrating what he called Negro History Week as a means to recognize the tremendous contributions of African Americans throughout U.S. history. To honor two of his heroes who played a role in shaping Black history, Woodson chose the week in February falling between the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
As we reflect this month, we celebrate African American Full Professors in Johns Hopkins history. |
