Documenting a Tripartite Career Launched at Hopkins |
|
It isn’t often that the Alan Mason Chesney Archives of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions receives a huge collection of personal papers that documents the career and contributions of an alumnus. But that just happened when W. Bruce Fye, M.D. '72 shipped forty-five boxes to the archives and contributed a donation to organize the collection. |

Graduate Coating Ceremony |
|
The Graduate Coating Ceremony that honors Ph.D. candidates who have passed their qualifying exams, transitioning from a Ph.D. student to a Ph.D. candidate. Though the white coat ceremony is most commonly known as an educational milestone and ritual for M.D. graduates, The Johns Hopkins University is one of the few institutions in the country to present its graduating Ph.D. students with white coats. Check out footage from this April 10th event. |

Dichotomy of the Black Scientist |
|
Black scientists exist in a space that is slowly inching its doors wider for people from underrepresented backgrounds, creating an opportunity for them to make the lab a healthier and more inclusive space for themselves and the budding Black scientists coming after them. In spite of the dichotomy of this experience, the work of Black scientists is immensely positive and powerful for the future. Black History Month, and every month, is a time to highlight this work by the Black students and faculty members at the Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences as they set new standards and break through milestones that open the doors a little wider. |

Ph.D. Spotlight |
|
We are delighted to share that March 25th, Chad Hicks and Benjamin Zaepfel, PhD students from the Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) graduate program, placed first and third in Three Minute Thesis (3MT).
Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) is an international research and scholarly communication competition in which doctoral students have three minutes –
and a single PowerPoint slide - to present compelling and engaging talks on their dissertation topic and its significance. 10 Hopkins doctoral students presented their 3MT talks to an esteemed panel of judges, including Dr. Gregg Semenza (SOM Professor and 2019 Nobel Laureate) and Eduardo Martinez-Montes (2019 3MT Champion and SOM PhD candidate). |

2022 Best Research-Oriented Medical Schools |
|
The annual U.S. News & World Report Best Medical Schools: Research rankings for 2022 were announced today, and the list reaffirmed that the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is one of the best in the country. The school of medicine was ranked #7 out of more than 100 medical schools in the nation.
While the school of medicine has consistently earned one of the top spots in the U.S. News & World Report graduate program rankings, it is important to note that an unexpected change in methodology contributed to a shift in our position on the list — as well as in the ranking of many other medical schools.
