Wardens Parish News 19 June

Dear friends

Wasn’t it lovely to be able to be in church on Sunday, to see friends, catch up on news and have a cuppa together?   There was certainly an air of celebration in church. This week we welcome an old friend, Rev Rosie Newport, to take our service (at 9am as last week) and celebrate with us.

The House of Bishops have confirmed that we are able to have communion in two kinds this week - so bread only or bread and wine using a common cup (no dipping is permitted).  There will be an alternative of juice in small cups for those who prefer not to use the common cup and for children.

Thank you everyone for your donations last Sunday to the Covid-19 appeal. A total of $455 was given with $55 specifically donated for Fiji and the remainder going to Mozambique – the most popular choice by the pebble voting. Further contributions will be gratefully received either by leaving at the back of the church in a marked envelope or by direct credit to the parish bank account clearly marked Covid-appeal BNZ 02-0536-0257007-00

The news this week of 2 new Covid-19 cases highlights how important it is to maintain the hygiene protocols to ensure that the risk of any spread of this disease.  You will find hand sanitiser, antiseptic wipes and tissues at the back of church – please feel free to use these.  There is also a register to be filled in for contact tracing – this is not compulsory, but we feel it a good idea to keep this going at least for the next few weeks. We now have our QR code (on the notice board near entrance to church) so if you have the app on your phone please use this to sign in.  Further copies are on the door to the hall, and the notice board outside the office.

Please let us know your preference for times of services – 8am and 10am or one combined service at 9am.  Should the vote be to return to 8 and 10 we would like to look at the possibility of having a combined service once a month followed by a shared morning tea so we can all catch up with one another on a regular basis.  Just email your preference to us (email addresses below) or give one of us a call.

Volunteer Roster
As always, we need people to help out on the rosters – perhaps you could read a lesson or lead the prayers, be a welcomer? Please contact the office if you feel called to help in any way.

Many will be shocked to find
When the day of judgement nears
That there’s a special place in heaven
Set aside for volunteers
Furnished with big recliners
Satin couches and footstools
Where there’s no committee chairman
No group of leaders of carpools
No eager team that needs a coach
No bazaar and cake stall
There will be nothing to staple
And not one thing to mail
The telephone will be outlawed
But a finger snap will bring
Long cool drinks and gourmet dinners
And more treats fit for a king
Who’ll cook, who’ll serve these privileged few
And work for all they’re worth?
Why, those who reaped the benefits
And not once volunteered on earth!

A message from Bridget Hodgkinson:
Please continue to collect any unwanted plastic pens, toothbrushes and other oral care items that would otherwise be discarded and bring them to church. Also, wine bottle tops.

Put your used batteries to one side at your homes but (for safety reasons) do not bring them to church at the moment please. There will be another notice about these in the future.

Please advise if you have any unwanted, good quality curtains or material that can be remade into curtains for others by the Sustainability Trust curtain bank.

Please uphold in your prayers Sue Rowe as she recovers from her hip operation, Pam Barraclough’s brother Peter, the Hammond family, all those throughout the world affected by Covid-19 and those known to you.

Spirit of God, I feel a quiet stirring in me,
It is the call to come back to life, to be energised and renewed.
It is my heart crying out for newness, for a lighter spirit, for a keener sense of hope in the future.
God, I need a heart that is free from the dross of the past,
a heart that is fresh with enthusiasm and energy for the present as well as the future.
Create in me a vibrant spirit, one that carries hope, one that believes in peace.
Take this heart of mine and fill it with goodness.
Amen.

God bless

Thank you for your donations and givings during 2019 / 2020.
All donation receipts have been send out.  Please contact the parish office via email on
office@onslowanglicans.org.nz if you have any queries.
We are very grateful to all of you who continue to support us financially, as the Parish needs to continue to meet various costs including wages, rates, some utilities, etc.  For those who can continue to provide support in these difficult times it would be much appreciated if envelope giving could be converted to direct debit to the parish bank account.
