Wardens Parish News 28 June

Thank you to all who replied and gave us your preferences for the timing of services.

There was a clear indication from the 8-o-clockers that they would prefer to continue with an 8am service, most 10-o-clock people wanted to stay with 10am and a handful of people wanted to keep with the current 9am combined service.
As a result of this poll we have decided to return to 8am and 10am but with a combined 9am service on the second Sunday of the month.
The service times for July are:
5 July                     8am and 10am - Rev Kay Webster presiding
12 July                  9am combined service – Rev Tony Gardiner presiding
19 July                  8am and 10am – Rev Esma Collins presiding
26 July                  8am and 10am – Rev Rosie Newport presiding

Hospi’s  Jammies in June Appeal

Don’t forget the Wellington Children’s Hospital appeal for pyjamas this winter.  Some children come into hospital with no pyjamas to wear so the hospital likes to provide the children with some warm jammies that they can also take home with them when they are better. All sizes from 1 – 16 years are appreciated. You are welcome to bring your donated PJ's to the parish office during office hours or bring them to church over the next two Sundays and put them in the gold Jammies Box. You can also do ‘virtual PJ’s by going to  and making a donation.  The deadline for donations is Tuesday 7 July.

Working Bee

There will be a working bee in early July (date to be confirmed) to tidy up the back of the hall on the outside and to sort out the garden behind the hall.  This needs to be done so that when people are shown around the area with a view to renting the space vacated by BHK things look ‘shipshape and Bristol fashion’.  Please think about if you would be able to help out with this job – as a sweetener there is usually a very good morning tea laid on!

The rosters for July will be out soon – more volunteers are always welcome – maybe you could help with prayers or a reading?  Please let us know if you feel able to help in anyway with our services so we can add your name to our rosters.  The more people we have to take on duties the less often it comes around.

Covid-19 Global Appeal

The Diocesan Covid-19 Global Appeal has so far raised over $30,000, with contributions routed through the Parish standing at $455 so far.  It’s not too late to contribute to this fund - contributions will be gratefully received either by leaving at the back of the church in a marked envelope or by direct credit to the parish bank account clearly marked Covid-appeal - the account number is BNZ 02-0536-0257007-00

Some upcoming dates for your calendar are:

  • 4-6 September  - Ministry Leader’s family camp including a training day on 5 September which is open to all to attend.
  • 19 September – Synod (and election day!)
  • 21 November – Ordination and Thanksgiving Service.

Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain.  An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point.  Climb slowly, steadily, enjoying each passing moment, and the view from the summit will serve as a fitting climax for the journey.  Harold V. Melchert.
God, grant me the serenity to stop beating myself up for not doing things perfectly, the courage to forgive myself because I am working towards doing better, and the wisdom to know you love me just as I am.  Unknown.

Thank you John

Last but by no means last this will be John’s last edition of Warden’s Words as he is handing the baton to Flora McIntyre on July 1.
The words ‘thank you’ are far from adequate to express our gratitude John for all you have done for the parish over many years but in particular over the last few - guiding us through tremendous change, being a steadying hand and calming voice when things got a bit heated, leading us forward.
So , thank you John – we will be eternally grateful to you and are very glad that although this is farewell to you as Bishop’s Warden both you and Eileen will still be here worshipping and celebrating with us. Long may that continue.

God bless

Thank you for your donations and givings during 2019 / 2020.
All donation receipts have been send out.  Please contact the parish office via email on if you have any queries.
We are very grateful to all of you who continue to support us financially, as the Parish needs to continue to meet various costs including wages, rates, some utilities, etc.  For those who can continue to provide support in these difficult times it would be much appreciated if envelope giving could be converted to direct debit to the parish bank account.
