Wardens Parish News 14 June

Dear friends

Well done team of 5,000,000 – we have made it to Level 1.  It’s so lovely to be able to go out and about, have a coffee, meet friends and live a near normal life.  As we celebrate please remember in your prayers those who are not so fortunate and are still in the grip of the Covid pandemic.

Church is reopening on Sunday with a combined 9am service so we can catch up with friends and celebrate not only New Zealand’s achievement but also St Barnabas day.  Rev Tony Gardiner will be taking the service which will be a eucharist in one kind (bread only) as per the Provincial guidelines. There will be a simple morning tea in the hall after the service – do join us for the chance to catch up with each other, hear people’s news and enjoy a cuppa together.

As we mentioned last week there will be a special collection for the Anglican Mission Covid Appeal which will be done via a plate at the back of the church for hygiene reasons.  This is a way of both celebrating our blessings having come through the crisis so far, and also providing help to those in more need.  There are 4 appeals set up:

  • Al Ahli Arab Hospital for medical supplies
  • Diocese of Niassa, Mozambique for food
  • Dreketi, Fiji for tools, seeds and grocery items
  • Kolkata, India to pay, protect and provide for businesses affected by Covid-19

You will be able to indicate which appeal you would like our donations to go to by placing a counter in the bowl of your choice, with the majority vote determining the outcome.  The counters will be at the back of the church alongside the donation plate. If you are unable to come to church but would still like to donate, please do so via the church bank account - BNZ 02-0536-0257007-00 clearly marking it for the Covid Appeal.

It is our intention continue with a 9am service on 21st June and then review what people would like to do.  Please let us know your preference for staying with the combined 9am service or for a return to 8am and 10am services – or indeed something else if you would favour that. Should we decide to remain with the 9am service there will be a variety of style of service over the month, so all tastes are catered for. Your vote counts so let us know – email us or the office - office@onslowanglicans.org.nz.

A meditation on the Lord’s Prayer

Our father in heaven
Help me to believe this day that there is a power to lift me up which is stronger than all the things that hold me down

Hallowed be thy name
Help me to be sensitive to what is beautiful and responsive to what is good so that day by day I may grow surer of the holiness of the life in which I trust

Your kingdom come
Help me to be quick to see, and ready to encourage, whatever brings the better meaning of God into that which otherwise might be the common round of the uninspiring day

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Help me to believe that the ideals of the spirit are not a far-off dream but a power to direct my life here on earth

Give us this day our daily bread
Open the way for me to earn an honest living without anxiety but never let me forget the needs of others

And forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us
Make me patient and sympathetic with others, especially those we love.  Always keep me forgiving as there is much for which I need to be forgiven

Save us from the time of trial
Let me not go carelessly this day within the reach of any evil I cannot resist.  If in the path of duty, I go where there is temptation, give me the strength of spirit to meet it without fear

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.  Amen

See you on Sunday!

God Bless

Thank you for your donations and givings during 2019 / 2020.
All donation receipts have been send out.  Please contact the parish office via email on
office@onslowanglicans.org.nz if you have any queries.
We are very grateful to all of you who continue to support us financially, as the Parish needs to continue to meet various costs including wages, rates, some utilities, etc.  For those who can continue to provide support in these difficult times it would be much appreciated if envelope giving could be converted to direct debit to the parish bank account.
