Wonderful World of Workshops

Welcome to the second Blackwattle Alpaca Yarn and Fibre Newsletter!
We are calling this newsletter 'The Wonderful World of Workshops' because this month we launch our on farm workshops (insert picture of excited Angela here!). We are offering a wide range of workshops from needle felting, crocheting, knitting and dyeing fibre and yarn. We will be advertising lots more workshops as I get them sorted so please watch this space for updates!

Other stuff? So much has happened since the last newsletter. This newsletter is full with lots of exciting news and updates! Hope you enjoy reading it.

Flowers from our farm!

There are colourful inspirations across our farm, not just the wattle flowers that grow in abundance.

This year the wattle trees have flowered early, throwing our farm into a riot of yellow, everywhere we look! So very pretty.

This little display of native flowers sit beside our driveway so we get to enjoy them everytime we come home!

Blackwattle Species

Black wattle trees grow on coastal lowlands and the adjacent tablelands and ranges in south-eastern Australia, extending from near Sydney, NSW, to the south-eastern corner of SA. It has become naturalised in parts of NSW, SA and WA. This species is usually a small to medium-sized tree up to 6 - 15 m tall, and grows on gentle to moderately hilly topography usually preferring easterly and southerly aspects, just like on our farm! That's why they grow so well on our farm.

Did you know?

That the 1st of September is National Wattle Day?

Since 1992 National Wattle Day has been celebrated on the 1st September in all of Australia's States and Territories. Wattles have long had special meanings for Australians and in 1988 the Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha) was officially gazetted as Australia's national floral emblem.

In the Press

In August we were interviewed for the NSW Farmer Magazine. It was a wonderful experience! The article showcased our farm and alpaca business.

If you want to read the online article please visit NSW Farmers Website.

On the TV

27 June will be a day that I never forget. WIN News Canberra visited the farm to interview me about our alpaca business.

Can I just say it was very strange seeing myself on TV. Very odd experience walking into the local shops and people say "Hey I saw you on TV last night!".

Makers of Murrumbateman

We are now members of the Makers of Murrumbateman - passionate producers and creative craftsmen (ummm creative women too). A collective of makers and producers based in Murrumbateman, NSW, who have got together to celebrate all things grown, produced and hand crafted in Murrumbateman!

Chinese Wool & Textile

The Australian Alpaca Association showed a group of Chinese delegates around the industry last week. The delegates were representatives of the China Wool and Textile Association and were in Australia to learn about Australian alpaca fleece!  We were lucky enough to meet them at the Australian Alpaca Nationals!

Australian Alpaca Nationals

This month we attended the Australian Alpaca Nationals in Bendigo. This event showcases the best of the best of alpacas and alpaca products in Australia. In the halter section of the show we were awarded three ribbons - highly commended for Fifth Avenue (junior black female), first for Flecktarn (junior fancy male) and then Matilda won a second in the sires progeny for Pentland Giorgio (co owned by Millduck and Yarringa Alpacas). Well done team One Tree Hill!!

At the Nationals I was also awarded first, Champion and then the People's Choose Award for my needle felted "Hare and Tortoise" made from 100% Australian Alpaca, in fact alpaca from our farm!

This year's entries were stunning and I am pleased as punch to be awarded the three ribbons!

Below are a couple of happy snaps from the event!
