Xeric means to dry up, shrivel, pine away, or to be without water (SEC).
The believer should not be found in a dry, shriveled-up state, but should be well-watered and fruitful. When we are dried up we are not productive or reaching our full potential in Christ. The purpose that the Lord has for our lives is not being fulfilled when we are in a xeric condition or dryness.
“And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.”
To yield means to give up, concede, surrender, and obey (AHD).
Believers should not yield reluctantly, but should willingly surrender any fleshly desires to God’s will.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts and passions. Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness. But offer yourselves to God [in a decisive act] as those alive [raised] from the dead [to a new life], and your members [all of your abilities—sanctified, set apart] as instruments of righteousness [yielded] to God. -Romans 6:12-13
Zealous means to be filled with or motivated by zeal, or fervent (AHD).
A believer who is called by Christ will utilize every effort to fulfill his God-given purpose.
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” -Titus 2:13-14
