Good Morning <<First Name>>,
I hope you've had an awesome weekend so far! Yesterday, the weather was gorgeous! I spent time with my mom at the Farmer's Market and I cooked my first big pot of chili of the Fall Season.😋
The picture you see is me meditating on the beach in Haleiwa, Hawaii after booking a spur-of-the-moment flight the day after Christmas 2017. I just needed to get away. Two months prior, I boarded a flight on my birthday to bury my dad in Ghana. Not the greatest birthday present... Losing a parent shakes you emotionally unlike anything I've ever experienced. It brought a lot of emotions to the surface and also forced me to reflect on what's truly important in life.
In Hawaii, my goal was to get into a headspace that would help me to start healing and to let go of any negative emotions and resentment. I hiked, meditated, ate a lot of good food, and really got lost in the beauty around me. Little did I know that this trip would set the tone for the year to come. This year, I fell in love with yoga and started meditating on a regular basis. I cultivated harmony between my mind, body & soul. I started connecting with my passion. I decided I could either let grief and resentment consume me, or I could use it to help me grow and step into a more purposeful life.
On my birthday (10/25), instead of boarding a flight to do the saddest thing I've ever done, I'm launching the La Dope Vie blog and embarking on a month-long solo #AsianAdventure & spiritual journey! For a while, I was worried that my birthday would always be a sad occasion, but I decided to change the storyline myself and I'm really excited about what's to come! I can't wait to share this journey with you. Don't let tragedy be the end of your story. It's just the beginning... ❤️
Moral of the story: A lot can change in a year... No matter what you're going through; no matter how bleak things may seem right now...you have the power to change the narrative and go live your dream life! Our struggles come to help us learn and grow. We don't have to keep struggling after the lesson is learned. 🙏🏾
Self Reflection for this Week: What can you do today to start changing the narrative of your life? Are there people you need to forgive (including yourself)? Are you holding onto any negative beliefs or resentment that you need to free yourself from? Is there something important you've been neglecting (diet, exercise, decluttering your life) that you know you need to do in order to improve your circumstance? Whatever is in your power to change to improve your life, go do it now. Not tomorrow, not next week, START NOW!
