Surviving Social Distancing 👤

How are you feeling on quarantine day number (I've lost count)?!? Last week, I started to feel the impact of my disrupted routine, which resulted in me staying up later and sleeping in longer.  Late-night Netflix binges and passing out on the couch had taken its toll. As a result, I just felt out of rhythm and the days started to blend together.  Can you relate? Over the weekend, I vowed to get my routine back on track so that I could feel like my normal self again.  Within one day of getting back to my normal sleep/wake schedule, I felt more energized and productive than I had in a while.

If you are like me and being at home has thrown off your routine, it's time to bring some order back into your life. Here are a few reasons why getting your routine together is in your best interest:
  • Routines are important for our mental health. 
  • Routines help anchor us and create structure in our day.
  • Routines help ensure we make time for what's important to us (fitness, mealtime, personal time).
  • Sticking to a routine can reduce stress & anxiety, which is so important during crazy times like these. 
  • Having a set routine for morning and bedtime helps keep your body's internal clock working optimally, which translates into better sleep and increased energy during the day.

How to use this mantra: Repeat this mantra three times and then close your eyes and feel the energy that you are drawing to yourself. Reflect on what this means for you. If you find yourself feeling off-balance this week, come back to this mantra. For added power, write it down on a sticky note and place it somewhere you will see it all week.
