Hi <<First Name>>,
Happy Tuesday! If your city is anything like mine, you've experienced a lot of excessive heat this summer. We've had nonstop days of 90-degree temperatures and I'm looking forward to cooler days (as are my plants 🌱). I'm maintaining my joy by making sure I'm keeping my energy balanced during this time by honoring Ayurvedic principles.
Summer is aligned with pitta or fire energy in Ayurvedic medicine. In order to remain balanced in the summer months, we have to balance that fire energy with more cooling energy as an overabundance can lead to physical and mental stress. While fire energy spurns us to act, too much of it can lead to anger, tension, and aggression. It's one of the reasons why crime tends to increase in the summer. Physically, a pitta imbalance can lead to acid indigestion, fever, hot flashes, infections, and rashes.
Here are some Ayurvedic tips to help you keep your pitta energy balanced during the remaining hot summer months:
- Eat breakfast and lunch before the sun gets hot as our digestive energy is lowest during the hottest part of the day
- Exercise early in the day and never when the sun is at its hottest.
- Drink 4 to 6 cups of water daily, along with cooling beverages like fresh coconut water and watermelon juice
- Avoid hot, spicy, and salty foods.
- Hard liquor, red wine, and red meat are also too heating for the summer and should be avoided or consumed in moderation.
- Eat sweet, bitter, and astringent foods during summer. The best summer foods are made with milk, yogurt, ghee, cucumber, apples, pears, melon, watermelon, fresh cilantro, asparagus, artichoke, broccoli, and basmati rice.
I'm so glad milk is encouraged during this time, because you have the perfect excuse to make my homemade no-churn ice cream recipe!!!
Cheers to keeping our energy balanced with positive vibes and ice cream for the rest of the summer! 😁
