The City Plan charts how we will build our future city to a population of two million people. It describes the choices we will make about how we build and move around the city. It is a plan for how, together, we will adapt, prosper and succeed as we grow from a big small city to a small big city.

WHAT'S NEW?
Administration kicked off The City Plan project when they presented two reports (items 6.1 and 6.2) to Urban Planning Committee on August 28, 2018.

Both reports were well received by committee and accepted for information. During the conversation with committee members, a number of thoughts and questions were shared and asked of administration, such as:
  1. What is the impact on our boundary if we grow by an additional one million people?
  2. How does our city growing fit into the regional context and the upcoming agricultural plan?
  3. How might we look at investment sharing and make it easier for people to develop in the core of our city?
  4. How will we think about new technology and how it might impact our city in the future?
  5. Will we see scenarios and what the cost is to taxpayers if Edmonton grows at different densities?

These are all very good questions and are exactly the types of things that will be explored and answered through the development of The City Plan.

DID YOU KNOW?

One third of Edmonton's population arrived less than 20 years ago.

In 2000 Edmonton's population was 648,284 and in 2018 it is 932,546.

That's a lot of new people. You should say 'hi' to someone new today and find out what they love about Edmonton.
