From Pastor Dennis

Charles Allen, one of the great preachers of United Methodism, in his book God’s Psychiatry, once told a story about a man and his neighbor.  The man’s neighbor would cuss and cuss all the time.  In fact, so often would he cuss that it just seemed like every other word out of this man’s mouth was a cuss word.  Well, one day this man confronted his neighbor about his foul language.  His neighbor then said, “Well, I have cussed a lot and you have prayed a lot, but neither one of us meant what we said.”
Jesus said, “Simply let your “Yes” be a “Yes.” Let your “No” be a “No.”  Integrity is found not in the man or woman who speaks with eloquence, but the man or woman who speaks with commitment.  It’s not how many words, but how many words you can count on.  Just let “Yes” be “Yes” and “No” be “No.”

Special Offering for South Sudan
Sunday, February 16

On Sunday, February 16 churches across Holston Conference will take up a special offering to continue our ministry with the South Sudan.  Your gifts are vital to continue this ministry; without your gifts, this ministry may end.  The goal is $ 150,000.  Thanks to the generosity of the Holston Foundation a $ 75,000 matching gift has been given.  This means for every dollar you give your impact is doubled.  This is a critical time for our ministry with South Sudan.  Help us to continue the work we have started.
Sunday, February 09 we welcomed Joe and Sandy Vlcek into our church family!  We are happy to have you as members of Gray UMC!

Trustees Committee Meeting

The Trustees Committee will meet Sunday, February 23 at 4:00 pm, in the office conference room.

Administrative Board Meeting

Sunday, March 1 @ 4:00

There will be an Administrative Board Meeting Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 4:00 pm to review the 8 weeks of having 1 worship service during January and February.  This will be an open meeting and the Administrative Board wants to hear your comments.  Do you like it?  Do you not like it?  Why?  Do we continue with 1 worship service or look at going back to 2 worship services?  We want to hear from you.  We will meet in the Praise Chapel.
Thank you

There are no words adequate to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our loving church family for the calls, cards, and more importantly, the many prayers lifted up during the past 5 months of Kenny's hospitalization and rehabilitation  after his massive stroke, as well as during Sandy's long, but successful, battle with leukemia.

Special thanks to Pastor Dennis and Pastor Bryan for the many visits and prayers with them both.  We certainly have evidence that we serve a loving and faithful God who hears and answers our prayers.  We have seen and continue to see miracles in Kenny's healing.  We believe that God will continue His healing in the coming months and we covet your prayers during this time as Kenny works with therapists for physical, occupational and speech.
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
With love and blessings,
The Helton family

Three Week Sermon Series

              Matthew 5:1 – 12
Feb 9th – Salt and Light
              Matthew 5:13 – 15
Feb 16th – You Heard What?
              Matthew 5:21 – 22
Join Pastor Dennis as he embarks upon a three-week journey into the greatest sermon ever preached – “Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.”  It is found in Matthew’s Gospel, chapters 5 – 7.   Along our journey we will explore what it means to be truly blessed in the eyes of God, what Jesus meant when he called us to be both salt and light in the world, and how you can discern the difference between what others say about living a Godly life, and what Jesus actually says about it. Don’t miss a Sunday!  I am looking forward to being with you on in worship Sunday at 10:30.
