4 AMAZING BILLS SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR!!
BREAKING

Governor Gavin Newsom, this morning signed four landmark bills for the state of California!

AB 44 - with AB 273, already chaptered, prohibits all fur in and out of state, and makes California the first state to ban fur!!
AB 1260 - bans the import and sale of exotic/endangered animals or parts including CROCODILE, ALLIGATOR, iguana, skink, caiman, hippopotamus, and three lizard species!!
AB 1254 - bans bobcat trophy hunting!!
SB 313 - bans the use of wild animals in circus!

Just last week, we visited the Capitol with a request for Governor Newsom to sign these bills in a suite, and HE DID!

Please see:  www.pawpac.news/2019-GovSuite

He also signed AB 128 (Horse slaughter) in that group of bills.  AB 128 became a very controversial bill because of language usage disputes between the bill sponsor and the 1998 Proposition 6 (horse slaughter initiative) sponsors.  For that reason, PawPAC recommended resolving the issues before moving the bill, but the Governor did sign.

We're elated for all furry, wild and leathery skinned animals, for having such amazing advocates in the California Legislature!!  Please shower the authors with your thanks: assemblymembers Brian Maienschein, Sydney Kamlager-Dove and Laura Friedman, with Senator Ben Hueso, with their coauthors and staffs, as well as Governor Newsom and his staff!

What an amazing day for California animals!!

The Governor also signed AB 1162 (Kalra, mini plastic bottles), AB 415 (Maienschein, pet housing/domestic violence) and SB 397 (Glazer, pet evacuations) earlier in the week!  Both, great strides for California.  Please thank them too (you may tap/click the officials' names).  Let us not forget to thank Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, whose AB 273 (fur trapping) was already chaptered on September 4!

Complete list of legislators to thank with all of their efforts on the animal protection bills to follow in our final edition, coming soon.

(This is not the final alert!  The news was too big to keep a secret!)

WILD HORSES IN PERIL
PawPAC addresses animal welfare legislation in California only, but we are making an exception for an impending crisis for wild horses and burros.  TIME IS VERY SHORT, PLEASE SET YOUR ALARM TO CALL TUESDAY A.M. FIRST THING (U.S. Capitol is closed on Monday):  Please read the Time magazine article below, and call Senators Diane Feinstein and Kamala Harris to register your opposition to the U.S. Senate FY20 Interior Appropriations bill.  Tell your out-of-state friends to contact their senators (www.pawpac.org/us-senator).  Ginger Kathrens, founder of The Cloud Foundation, has called it a path to extinction.  Wayne Pacelle, in so many words, called it a $35M incarceration.
