MORE CLUB NEWS
Launch of the Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate Marketplace FB Group
Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate has a wonderful ‘village’ culture with existing informal platforms already demonstrating the community spirit that exists where residents look after one another and share information for the benefit of all. On this basis and in order to add further value to residents and Mount Edgecombe Country Club members, a formal portal has been created on Facebook and is being launched by Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate known as Mount Edgecombe Country Club Marketplace. This platform is exclusively for the benefit of residents and members to network with one another, buy and sell goods and services within our community and provide a safe space where questions and important information or breaking news about the club and estates can be shared. If there is something you need to know about the Estate and Club – then this is the place to find it! Including great deals on goods and services being provided by trusted members of your community.

This Facebook group is free to join and is exclusively for Residents and Members who are able to freely advertise their professional goods/services every Monday. For a minimal fee, external companies who would like to advertise their goods and services to the Mount  community will be allowed to do so once a week so as to mitigate any possible spamming.

For more information about joining the Mount Edgecombe Country Club Marketplace Facebook page or to enquire about advertising costs, contact Kate Watkin on Kate@mountedgecombe.com. Full terms and restrictions of the page can be found within the ‘About Us’ section of the page so as to keep this space safe and secure and remain true to its purpose while avoiding spamming from happening.

Feel free to invite anyone else living on the estate or who is a member to join the page and benefit from being part of our wonderful community that is Our Mount Edgecombe.
Birds On The Estate
Brown-Hooded Kingfisher (Halcyon albiventris) Halcyon is Greek for Kingfisher and albiventris is Latin for white belly.

This bird is quite common on the Estate and eats insects such as butterflies, bees, locusts and ants. These invertebrates are usually hawked aerially, killed and then eaten. The Brown-hooded Kingfisher is a monogamous bird which means that the bird finds and breeds with one partner for the rest of its life but it is mainly seen singly.

The Brown-Hooded Kingfisher builds its nest in a horizontal tunnel excavated into a vertical bank in the ground. A good place to see their nest is on The Lakes near the 14th hole bunker where it digs into the side of the bunker to build its nest.

The call of the Brown-Hooded Kingfisher is very distinct and once you have heard it you will remember it for a long time.
BOWLS
Our AGM was held at the Pavilion on Tuesday 2nd of February after ten ends of Bowls. In the current circumstances we were pleased to have nearly 30 members in attendance and were able to “socially distance”.

There was nothing contentious and the new Committee was appointed as follows:
Marilyn Adcock, Manette Strauss, Heather Wright, Geremy Cliff, Peter du Trevou, Ian Eslick, Hennie Heyns, Martin Perling, and Chris Taylor.

At the first Committee meeting, Martin was elected President, Peter as Vice-President, Heather as Secretary and Ian as Treasurer.

The President’s Trophy, awarded annually to a member who has done outstanding work for the Bowling Section, was given to Secretary, Heather Wright.
