The VALIDATE community has had a very busy (northern hemisphere) summer. We celebrated 100 years of the BCG vaccine, held our final seminar from our Industry Partners, and have some exciting news about the
future of VALIDATE.

We have also welcomed 20 new members to the VALIDATE Network and we now boast over
450 members from 226 institutes across 68 countries (41 Lower and Middle-Income Countries). Connect with us and your fellow members online at our eventsvia the members directory,

BCG100 Campaign Update

Our BCG100 programme marked 100 years since the first use of the venerable Bacillus Calmette–Guérin vaccine for humans. We marked the occasion with a variety of online activities, including officially launching our BCG Adventure Computer games and completing our #BCG100Facts about TB and BCG. Over the last few months, we have also marked this anniversary with a series of public talks and you can find recordings of these on thBCG100 page.
VALIDATE Receives $1.5 Million Gates Foundation Funding

In August we received some excellent news. VALIDATE has received $1.5 million in funding for its tuberculosis vaccine work from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The money will support fellowships, grants and training for VALIDATE Network TB researchers, particularly female researchers, early-career researchers and researchers in low and middle-income countries.

The funding from the Gates Foundation means that VALIDATE can now continue its activities to at least 2023.

Find out more on the official announcement page.

VALIDATE Annual Meeting 2021

VALIDATE's next Annual Meeting will be taking place online, across three days: 15 September14 October, and 16 November. Since 2017, VALIDATE's Annual Meetings have provided members of our community with a chance to connect, network, build new collaborations and hear about some of the great research that our network has supported over the past four years. This year, each day has a different start time so that as many members from our
global community as possible can take part.

The Programme
VALIDATE has funded 23 collaborative projects, for research that would accelerate vaccine development for our focus pathogens. Members from each project will give a presentation to report their findings. We will also hear from Dr Rachel Tanner about her Fellowship project and Early Career Researchers will get to share ideas with their peers in the ECR Open Forum.

Free for VALIDATE Members - so register today!
We are still adding to the 2021 programme but you can find out more and register for one, two or all of the days on the Annual Meeting 2021 webpage -

We look forward to seeing everyone online!
Past Events Round-up
Public Lecture: TB and the Use of BCG in Animals: Does it matter to people?

On 9 June, 78 people from 22 countries gathered online to hear Prof Glyn Hewinson and Prof Michele Miller talk about why effective vaccine programmes for animals are essential to humans' health and well-being.

We lost Prof Miller towards the end of her presentation to a power outage, but she kindly agreed to record the remainder of her talk which is now available online.

VALIDATE continues to grow and we have welcomed 20 new members to the community over the last three months. We encourage our members to collaborate, so if you see any new joiners with similar research interests, check out their profile and perhaps start to build your next research partnership.
