Cities of Hermosa Beach, Monrovia, and Santa Paula Join CPA as
New Member Communities

The Clean Power Alliance (CPA) Board of Directors recently approved adding the cities of Hermosa Beach, Monrovia, and Santa Paula as new member communities to CPA’s expanding service area. Residential and commercial electricity customers within the three cities will begin receiving clean renewable energy from CPA in March of 2024. Each of the cities voted earlier this year to join CPA and our team will work with the new communities over the next year to provide information and resources to residents and businesses to understand their energy options

The addition of these three cities will bring the total number of CPA member communities to 35 and highlights the momentum among Southern California communities making leadership decisions to address the impacts of climate change with sustainable solutions.

Welcome to our new member communities and thank you for helping make our region cleaner and healthier for all.

Solar Projects to Bring Local Renewable Energy into Disadvantaged Communities

At its December meeting, the Clean Power Alliance (CPA) Board of Directors approved two 15-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Pivot Energy to develop rooftop community solar projects located within the City of Pico Rivera. The projects will serve customers in the Bassett and Avocado Heights communities through CPA’s Power Share program, which promotes the development of renewable energy generation in and for underserved communities while providing enrolled customers with 100% renewable energy at a 20% bill discount. CPA currently has approximately 6,200 customers enrolled in its Power Share program. The two Pivot Energy projects are expected to serve an additional 340 Power Share customers.

2022: An Impactful Year for Advances in Renewable Energy and Community Resiliency

Clean Power Alliance has had a successful year in advancing renewable energy projects and programs that address the impacts of climate change, bolster resiliency, provide communities with local renewable energy choices and serve diverse customer needs.  Accomplishments achieved throughout the year were possible through the contributions and dedication of our local renewable energy partners, engaged leaders on our board of directors and community advisory committee, our highly determined staff, and the communities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties we serve and call home. As we look back on 2022, we highlight work done that reflects how CPA continues to pursue the vision of using “Power for Good.”

Meet the Staff - Jennifer Giles

Tell us about your background.

My background is steeped in the renewable energy and environmental sector, specifically in the areas of solar project development and carbon benchmarking in addition to mitigation and sustainability.

I have previously worked with project developers, building owners, finance partners and energy off-takers to evaluate and develop renewable energy projects.

Having been in this field for a while, it is exciting to see many more businesses using renewable energy, as well as seeing electric vehicles become the standard versus the exception, and the idea of environmental sustainability becoming mainstream.

What responsibilities do you have here at Clean Power Alliance?

My role at Clean Power Alliance involves working with our customers and member cities on their accounts, default rate changes and program enrollment. I work to retain our customers with enhanced account services, education on CCA’S/CPA, bill/rate analysis, energy and bill savings opportunities and program enrollment.

I also strategize with other groups at CPA including rates, marketing, procurement, and programs to provide customer feedback and ideas for new offerings.

What are you most proud of in working here at CPA?

As a dedicated environmentalist, I am excited to work in the renewable energy sector which is one of the most impactful areas in the field.  I work with large users of energy and convincing them of the benefits of using carbon free, renewable energy is very rewarding.  CPA is a small, but mighty organization that is doing great things in the renewable energy sector and local communities!
