Old Farts...
We are going to Everglades City on Thursday, November 4th. Again this year, Old Fart Dale Schoeneman has gone to great lengths to help organize. You will find his detailed information in the following text block. Most things are covered by Dale, but just a couple items I would like to add.
Last I knew, the Rod & Gun Club is cash only. Please be prepared if you plan to dine there. “If” you have personal ground transportation packable for your aircraft, (folding bikes, scooters, etc.) this would be a good time to bring them along. Most restaurants and shops are about a mile from the airport, and our shuttles can only do so much. That said, Nick, the airport manager says the Diving Pelican is open at the south end of the airport. It is just a 5-7 minute walk from the airport gate. The volunteer car shuttles are fellow Old Farts, make sure to thank them, and maybe offer up some gas money.
Of course, it is stone crab season. I know there are various places to get them, but I’ve always used Grimm’s Stone Crab. Their phone number is 239-695-3222. Visit their website at crabs.us. Last I knew, they will deliver orders to the airport.
Old Fart John Marsh is bringing along two WWII Veterans. Jack Babb was a P-51 pilot and Jerry Enders was a SeaBee, serving in the South Pacific. John says he hopes to arrive on the early side, so that the vets get to see all the planes. Please try to seek them out and offer up thanks for their service! Veterans Day is just around the corner.
I’m hoping airport staff will again be on hand to help park. Nearly all parking is wing tip to wing tip, in the grass east of the taxiway for 15/33… north of the fuel pumps. Remember, runway 15 is RIGHT traffic.
The weather looks pretty good from this far out.
Hope to see you Thursday!
Keep the Shiny Side Up!
Old Fart Roger
