Old Farts
Scrubbing Because of WX
Winter Haven (KGIF)

for Thursday, November 18th, 2021

Old Farts...

The part of this job that I really don’t like, is deciding on whether to scrub one of our events because of weather. This has been one of those weeks where I keep monitoring the forecasts, hoping for improvement. No such luck. There is an upper level thingamajig moving over Florida tonight, that is sucking in a whole bunch of tropical moisture… RAIN. Our destination… Winter Haven looks okay until mid day, but then the rain moves in. Everybody south of there will be getting rain sooner. A little later for those to the north.

Sorry… but I think it’s best to simply scrub this one. I will contact the Flightline Restaraunt, the FBO and Waldo Wright’s Flying Service. The following Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, and we are not flying. It is a good possibility that we will re-schedule Winter Haven (KGIF) for December 2nd, but we will see how things shake out.

I have a couple emails to pass on. One from Larry Robinson about a Young Eagles event he is organizing. The other is from AOPA’s William McFadden. If you can help out with either of these requests, please email Larry or William directly. Larry’s is… Richard’s is…

Keep the Shiny Side Up!

Old Fart Roger

OK, the date is set for the Young Eagles event in the Glades.  SaturdayJanuary 29th, 2022.  Now it’s time to lock in pilots and support staff for the event.  If anything like in years past, this will be a huge event supported by the Glades communities and businesses.  Pilots and planes participating will be imperative for success.  We last flew 114 kids in a morning.

This will be the chance for our aviators to pay forward the blessing we’ve inherited from our predecessors in the aviation realm.  Remember, this is not an “all about me” moment in time and a worthwhile opportunity to pass on the blessing we’ve all experienced.

Willie and I are working on a special tour the day prior to the event for those participating.  Stay tuned for details.

There is an abundance of pre-event planning and work that goes into this.  We welcome your input and participation.

Hey Roger!

I run AOPA’s Air Safety Institue. I’m looking for some hangar space and an apartment in FL for a month or so in Jan or Feb timeframe. Would you have any time to connect on what might be some good leads/locations? I’m looking to do some AOPA Foundation outreach and Safety work.
Kind Regards,
Richard G. McSpadden Jr.
