Old Farts
Tampa North X39 Invite

For Thursday, December 1st, 2022…

Old Farts...

We are planning a return trip to Tampa North Aero Park (X39) on Thursday, December 1st. This little gem is located on the north side of Tampa (duh). It is within the Mode C and ADS-B ring around Tampa International, but the ATC floor above the airport is 3,000’… plenty of room.

Keith Carver and Laurie Olson run the airport and wonderful on-field restaurant… The Happy Hangar Cafe. PLEASE NOTE: I’ve included an RSVP button. If you’re planning to attend this one, let me know by Tuesday night. I’ll pass along a number to Laurie and Keith. The restaurant is open from 7-2… so lots of window for us to spread out our arrivals.

Fuel is available at $5.50 cash and $5.75 credit. There is abundant grass parking beyond the fuel pump, please refer to my diagram. Hard surface ramp parking is minimal. Best bet for bigger, heavier aircraft is on the south side of the runway. Park with your tail to the north and push back until your wheels are still on the hard surface. Again… please refer to my diagram. Runway is 3,500’ x 50’.

👉 RIGHT TRAFFIC FOR RUNWAY 14

👉 THERE IS NO PARALLEL TAXIWAY… go to end and taxi back in small groups when pattern clear.

👉 I-75 IS RIGHT AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY… if landing 32, keep your approach plenty high.

👉 CTAF is 123.05… Please be clear with your “back taxi” intentions.

A SPECIAL SIDE TRIP!!!

Last time we were at Tampa North, a few Old Farts wandered over to “Streetside Classics”. The reports I heard were phenomenal!!! So, I checked into it for this trip. Please see my accompanying diagram for the walking route. It is probably about a half mile each way. A brief description from their website is in this post. Over 200 classic, muscle, hot rod and antique cars are on display and for sale!!! Stuff right down an Old Fart’s alley!!! Go to their website by searching “Streetside Classics, Tampa”. You’ll be amazed! If any of you live in the vicinity, and would consider driving and acting as a volunteer shuttle service… I’m sure it would be appreciated by many Old Farts. Let me know via email if you can volunteer. The second diagram depicts the walking route… shaded in green.

As of Sunday night, Thursday’s forecast is okay. I’ll keep an eye on the weather. If forecasts dictate, we may decide to reschedule. Look for an update Tuesday evening. Keep the Shiny Side Up.
