We are going to Winter Have (KGIF) on Thursday, November 18th. The Flightline Cafe is open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. I’ve spoken with the manager and found that there have been some staffing changes made. I delicately noted that we have had some problems with service there in the past. Cal said that he would cut off breakfast items before lunch, streamline the lunch menu, round up all the staff he can (a real problem everywhere these days) and do his level best to insure we are well taken care of. The restaurant seats 90 inside and 25 on the patio, so seating isn’t an issue.
Let’s plan to spread things out… as has been our policy since Covid. This is working well on a number of levels, limiting congestion in the pattern, on the ramp and in the restaurant. Some come early, some a little late.
As a bonus, Old Fart Rob Lock, from Waldo Wright’s Flying Service, will have his “Skunk Works” open for Old Farts to visit. His beautiful Travelair biplane will be on the ramp. In the shop, Rob has three Stearman projects and a set of Citabria wings he is covering. We will be welcome to have a “Look”, but please be mindful of the delicate pieces and parts that go with these projects. Rob’s hangars are an easy walk, east of the terminal building. In the past, the FBO has had a vehicle or golf cart available for those who have difficulty walking.
A peek at the weather looks pretty good. I talked with the FBO and they will offer a 20 cent discount on full service fuel from the truck. That price will be $4.95. Fuel at the self serve pump across the field is $4.55.
Hope to see you Thursday!
Keep the Shiny Side Up!
