Canceling This Week…

for Thursday, March 24th, 2022…

Old Farts...

The forecasted weather around south Florida for Thursday, March 24th, looks pretty awful. Checking my usual reporting stations on ForeFlight, I’m seeing IFR to MVFR with rain and thunderstorm chances ranging from 60% to 90%. Also, winds are on the brisk side at 15 to 20 knots. Not a great day. I’m calling it a “Scrubbed Mission”.

The good news is, I was still struggling to find a destination for us.

We are all set for the following week… March 31st. The folks organizing “Bensen Days”, at the Wachula Airport (KCHN) are inviting us to join in on the fun. Igor Bensen invented the “Gyrocopter” in the 1950s. I’m told there will be well over fifty Gyrocopters on hand for the multi-day event. The early gyros, powered by chain saw engines, have evolved into highly capable and reliable craft. You’ll be amazed. Plans are being made for our visit. An arrival window will be established for us, with gyrocopter activity curtailed until we are on the ground. We will then enjoy lunch and a “Showcase” demonstration by some of the Gyrocopters. Following that, we will crank up and depart. I’ll have a detailed invite out early next week, to include an RSVP function for the $15.00 per person lunch. Mark it on your calendar.

The following week will be set aside for everyone to enjoy Sun N Fun. Following that… I’m working on plans for a variety of destinations.

I received a couple pics from last week at Grassroots. They came in too late for my recap, but they’re too good not to share. Besides, it gives us one more chance to thank everyone at Grassroots for an INCREDIBLE EVENT☘️☘️☘️!!! I’m also attaching info for a fly-in fish fry and the instructions for ordering your Old Fart Flying Club shirts and hats.

Dont forget! Tomorrow is “Taco Tuesday” at Arcadia Municipal (X06). I just talked with the BEST airport manager in the entire country… Shelley Peacock. She has FOUR food trucks on hand these days. The original Taco truck, a BBQ truck, Redneck Burritos and an Ice Cream and Smoothie truck!!! With the “Taco Tuesday” discount, 100LL will be $4.95 per gallon. This may be the last time you find avgas under $5.00 for awhile! Shelley also says representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation are scheduled to be on hand tomorrow, to assess the airport’s needs. Shelley has requested funding for more ramp space to accommodate events like Taco Tuesday, Old Fart visits, etc. A large showing of aircraft tomorrow would be a good thing! Shelley tells me that a regular “Taco Tuesday” can see over 100 aircraft throughout the day!!! Wow!!!

Keep the Shiny Side Up!
