We are going to Avon Park (KAVO) on Thursday, November 11th. We are dining at the historic Hotel Jacaranda in downtown Avon Park. The entire “Palm Room” has been reserved for us from 11:30 through 1:30. The hotel’s lavish lunch buffet will available to us for $16.00 per person. The price includes your meal, drinks, desserts, tax and tip. PLEASE bring cash! My wife, Terese will be stationed at the door into the dining room to take your payment. We will be ready with lots of one dollar bills, but correct change, or permission to “round up” would be greatly appreciated! Don’t forget to pay the lady and tip the piano player!
RIDES… As of right now, I have five or six Old Fart volunteers ready to shuttle us the two miles from the airport to downtown. That’s probably enough, but one or two more wouldn’t hurt. Let me know if you live in the vicinity and could help with shuttling. Again, if you have a bike or scooter for the plane, this is a good opportunity to bring it along. Some have walked in the past, but it’s a pretty good trek. The shuttles will begin shortly after 11:00.
Parking is ample for our group, but we do have to be somewhat creative. There is a lot of hard surface area both south and west of the terminal building. If we have our typical number of aircraft, we will also be parking many of us in the grass. If grass is suitable for your aircraft, please find parking there, and reserve hard surface for the larger, heavier planes. It never hurts to have some of us volunteering to jump in and help others get parked. There are two runways and fuel available. The weather looks good from here. Some rain moving in late in the day, but shouldn’t bother us.
PLEASE! Use the RSVP button to give me a heads up on numbers for this one. Wouldn’t want them to run out of food at the Hotel!
That’s about it for this invite. Hope to see you at Avon Park on Veterans Day!
Keep the Shiny Side Up!
